Yes. Orlando Sentinel reported on September 30, 2026, that Orange County, Florida’s mayor and commissioners approved a 4% raise for themselves in a 6-1 vote. District 2 Commissioner Mike Crabb was the only dissenter. The raise was reported as part of the county’s $9.01 billion FY 2026-27 spending plan; the report said the tax rate stayed level.

What was approved, and when?

The Sentinel reported that the elected officials’ pay increase was approved alongside the county budget. Orange County’s official Legistar record shows that the Board of County Commissioners approved the FY 2027 millage and budget public-hearing item on September 24, 2026. That record confirms the budget action, but the retrieved official record does not independently state the elected officials’ raise or its vote tally.

The Sentinel’s September 30 report gives the elected-official details: a 4% increase, approved 6-1, with Commissioner Mike Crabb voting against it. It described the adopted spending plan as $9.01 billion and reported that the tax rate was held steady.

Why did officials’ pay increase?

According to the Sentinel, the board adopted a policy in 2023 linking future elected-official salary increases to the percentage awarded to other county employees. The newspaper reported that commissioners’ pay had increased by about $44,000 under that approach by September 2026. That is a cumulative figure reported by the Sentinel, not the amount of this year’s raise.

The sources reviewed do not establish the officials’ stated rationale for their own raise. A county Human Resources memo discusses staff compensation and pay competitiveness, but that is a separate matter and should not be treated as the officials’ explanation.

How the elected officials’ raise differs from county staff pay

Orange County’s September 2026 Human Resources memo addressed eligible regular non-bargaining employees and specified pay ranges. Those employee measures are not evidence of the elected officials’ salary action, even though the memo also refers to pay plans for Mayor/Board of County Commissioners staff.

Action Who it covers Amount and timing Source and status
Reported elected-official raise The mayor and county commissioners 4%; effective date not established in the material reviewed Orlando Sentinel report, September 30, 2026
Staff salary adjustment Eligible regular non-bargaining employees meeting performance standards 4% base salary adjustment, recommended effective October 11, 2026 Orange County Human Resources memo dated September 4, 2026
Staff pay-range adjustment Specified non-bargaining pay ranges At least 3% increase to minimums and maximums Orange County Human Resources memo dated September 4, 2026

The staff pay-plan item, Legistar File 26-1128, was approved September 29, 2026, and concerned staff compensation and leave-sell options. It does not establish the officials’ raise or vote tally.

What are the mayor’s and commissioners’ new salaries?

The available reporting and official records reviewed do not establish the post-raise annual salary for each commissioner or the mayor. A verified starting salary and effective date would be needed to calculate individual new amounts, so a precise figure cannot be stated from the reported 4% alone.

What the budget and tax-rate context does—and does not—show

The Sentinel placed the raise within a $9.01 billion spending plan and reported that the tax rate stayed level. These facts provide budget context, but they do not establish the raise’s individual dollar cost or its effect on any one taxpayer. The September 24 official record confirms the budget and millage hearing item’s approval; it does not supply those additional figures.
