Agile and DevOps share a goal—delivering useful software and learning from feedback—but they focus on different parts of the work. Agile guides how teams plan, build, and adapt software. DevOps brings development and operations together to deliver, deploy, monitor, and operate it reliably. They are complementary approaches, not competing choices, and teams can use both.
What is Agile?
Agile is a set of values and principles for developing software in ways that emphasize customer collaboration, working software, responsiveness to change, and regular improvement. The Manifesto for Agile Software Development was published in 2001. It describes values and principles rather than prescribing one required method.
Scrum is one way teams may organize Agile work; Agile is not another name for Scrum. Teams can apply Agile principles through different methods and practices. For example, the Agile principles call for frequent delivery of working software, preferring shorter intervals—from a couple of weeks to a couple of months—without establishing a universal sprint length. They also emphasize technical excellence and regular reflection.
What is DevOps?
DevOps emphasizes collaboration and shared responsibility between the people who develop software and those who operate it. It extends attention beyond planning and building to delivery, deployment, monitoring, and learning from software in production.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
DevOps is best understood as a combination of organizational capabilities and practices, not a specific product or job title. The DORA capabilities catalog covers technical, process, and cultural capabilities. Common examples include continuous integration and delivery, automated testing and deployment, monitoring, small batches of work, customer feedback, and shared ownership.
Agile vs. DevOps: the key differences
The distinction below is a useful working model, not a universal standards definition: organizations use both terms in different ways.

| Dimension | Agile | DevOps |
|---|---|---|
| Main emphasis | Customer-focused software development that adapts as teams learn. | Development and operations collaboration supported by delivery and operational capabilities. |
| Scope | Primarily how teams plan, build, learn, and adapt during development. | The delivery and operational path, including deployment and learning from production. |
| Typical practices | Frequent delivery of working software, collaboration between business and developers, technical excellence, sustainable pace, and team reflection. | Continuous integration and delivery, automated tests and deployment, monitoring, small batches, customer feedback, and shared ownership. |
| Useful outcome measures | The Agile principles name working software as the primary measure of progress. | DORA’s measures include change lead time, deployment frequency, failed deployment recovery time, change fail rate, and deployment rework rate. |
In brief, Agile’s center of gravity is organizing and adapting development work; DevOps’s is connecting that work to delivery and operation. The approaches overlap in their attention to useful software, collaboration, and improvement, but they are not interchangeable labels.
What Agile and DevOps have in common
- They connect work to customer value. Agile principles call for early and continuous delivery; DevOps capabilities include customer feedback and small batches.
- They rely on collaboration and learning. Agile calls for business people and developers to work together and for teams to reflect. DevOps extends shared responsibility to those who build and operate software.
- They make improvement ongoing. Agile includes adapting plans and team behavior; DevOps includes operational feedback that can inform how software is delivered and maintained.
Can Agile and DevOps be used together?
Yes. A team can use Agile planning and customer feedback to decide what to build, then use DevOps practices to test and deliver changes, observe how they behave in production, and feed what it learns into future priorities. This is a practical combination of the approaches, not a formal rule imposed by either one.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Prioritize and plan: use customer and business feedback to select a small, valuable piece of work.
- Build and check: develop iteratively and automate tests where appropriate so changes can be checked consistently.
- Deliver and operate: use delivery practices that help teams release changes safely and monitor the running service.
- Learn and adjust: use customer and operational feedback to improve the software and inform the next priorities.
DORA describes continuous delivery as “the ability to release changes of all kinds on demand quickly, safely, and sustainably.” That capability can support an Agile team’s goal of delivering working software frequently; neither approach requires the other as a prerequisite.

Adopting an Agile or DevOps label does not by itself show that delivery has improved. For delivery improvement, DORA recommends using system-level measures in the context of the application or service and pursuing both throughput and stability. Its current framework includes change lead time, deployment frequency, failed deployment recovery time, change fail rate, and deployment rework rate; consult DORA’s metrics guide for current definitions.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Use measures to help a team understand and improve its own delivery system, not to assume that unlike services or teams can be compared fairly. Working software remains the Agile principles’ primary measure of progress, while delivery metrics can help expose how changes move through and affect a particular service.
