It is an organizational reference model—not a software product—intended to help companies coordinate people, processes, and technology across connected supply networks. DCM builds on the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) framework while adding a digital, capability-based view.
What the Digital Capabilities Model is for
Traditional supply chains are often described as linear sequences of activities. DCM instead frames a supply network as connected capabilities that coordinate planning, execution, and supporting work across a company and its customers, suppliers, and facilities. Deloitte describes the model as a way to consider how those capabilities depend on one another, rather than treating each process as an isolated digitization project. Deloitte’s current DCM overview presents the model as an interconnected combination of people, processes, and technologies.
The joint Deloitte–ASCM launch announcement described the first release as compatible with the SCOR Digital Standard. That makes DCM an extension of SCOR for digital supply networks, not a wholesale replacement for it.
The six level-one capabilities
Deloitte’s model overview organizes DCM into six level-one capabilities and 39 level-two capabilities. The six broad areas are:

The 39 level-two capabilities provide more specific detail, including definitions, digital implications, and relationships to other capabilities. Deloitte says this relationship view is intended to show interdependencies that a traditional process structure may not capture.
How DCM relates to SCOR
SCOR provides a cross-industry reference for supply-chain processes. DCM keeps a connection to that foundation while broadening the view to include digitally enabled capabilities and their links across a network. The 2019 announcement called the initial DCM release compatible with the SCOR Digital Standard; Deloitte’s overview describes how the model expands traditional SCOR elements into six digital capability areas. Organizations familiar with SCOR can therefore use DCM as a related lens for digital capability development, rather than assuming the two models are interchangeable.

Deloitte’s current model page lists additional tools and content associated with DCM. The page does not date these enhancements, so they should be understood as features it lists now, not as a dated release history.
- Metrics library: connects DCM metrics with SCOR.
- Level-two relationship mapping: provides updated incoming and outgoing connections, including their frequency, impact, and rationale.
- Digital chords: connect capabilities in sequence to address an end-to-end business challenge or an integrated function.
- Enhanced capability content: includes material for synchronized planning, product development, and intelligent supply, as well as FAQs and an About DCM page.
How an organization could apply the model
DCM is a framework for organizing decisions about capabilities, not a turnkey system that produces a guaranteed result. A practical evaluation should begin with the organization’s network and priorities, then identify which connections or capability gaps merit attention.

- Set the scope: decide which business units, functions, suppliers, customers, and geographies belong in the assessment.
- Assess readiness: compare current digital capabilities with the future state the organization wants to reach.
- Map integration needs: identify how planning and execution information must move across internal functions and partner boundaries.
- Prioritize capabilities: select the gaps that matter most and define how expected business value will be assessed.
- Assign governance: establish sponsorship, skills, operating ownership, and coordination across people, processes, and technology.
Deloitte describes a 12-week program sequence of Engage, Define, Analyze, Plan, and Launch. That is Deloitte’s described program, not a universal DCM requirement or a guarantee that a full transformation can be completed in 12 weeks. The cited materials do not report an independent measured business outcome, adoption rate, or quantified performance result for organizations using DCM.
Access, learning, and implementation support
ASCM announced in 2021 that DCM and the SCOR Digital Standard were available as free, open-access tools. That statement concerns access to the models. Separately, an ASCM learning catalog listing describes an introductory DCM webinar as member content. Access to a model and access to a particular course or learning item are distinct; check ASCM’s current terms for each.

Deloitte’s materials describe supply-network transformation and readiness assessment as service areas, while ASCM’s materials provide an education route. Choosing either does not change what DCM is: a reference model for assessing and coordinating capabilities. The cited sources do not establish an affiliate or referral program.

In the 2019 joint release, Chris Richard, then identified as a principal and high-tech sector lead for supply chain and network operations at Deloitte Consulting LLP, said: “Traditional supply chain objectives are becoming harder to achieve, given increased market volatility and complexity, digital disruption and shifting consumer expectations.”

In the same announcement, ASCM CEO Abe Eshkenazi described DCM as extending SCOR to the digital era and providing guidance for businesses in future decades. The release also said SCOR had served as the profession’s cross-industry standard for more than two decades; that duration is the launch announcement’s characterization, not a newly verified independent statistic.
