To turn on a Dell convertible laptop, open it into laptop mode and press its physical power button once. If it does not start, connect the correct power adapter and try again. Opening the lid can start some supported Dell models, but that behavior depends on the model and its BIOS settings.
Turn on the laptop with its power button

Open the convertible so you can reach the base and keyboard.

Press the physical power button once. Its position varies by model; Dell’s Inspiron 5491 2-in-1 guide and Inspiron 5591 2-in-1 guide show the button on the base. If you cannot find it, check the user guide for your exact model.

If the laptop does not start, connect its correct power adapter and press the power button again. Dell’s Inspiron 12 5280 2-in-1 Quick Start Guide shows connecting the adapter before pressing the button. Adapter requirements differ, so use the one specified for your model.

Can you turn on a Dell laptop by opening the lid?
Sometimes. On supported newer Dell laptops, the Power On Lid Open feature can wake or power on the computer when you open the lid. Dell lists the Inspiron 7506 2-in-1 among the affected products; this is not a universal feature of Dell convertibles.
Enable or disable Power On Lid Open in BIOS
If your model supports the setting, change it in BIOS:

Restart the computer and press F2 when the Dell logo appears.

Find Power On Lid Open, change the setting, select Apply or Apply Changes, then exit.
If Power On Lid Open is not listed in BIOS, Dell says the computer does not support the feature. Use the physical power button to start it instead.
