DeepSeek’s current product page says Harness can run as a desktop app, but the available official documentation does not verify that Harness v0.2 introduced official desktop apps. The key distinction: DSH Desktop has its own v0.2.x releases and identifies itself as a community-maintained, unofficial desktop application.
What is DeepSeek Harness?
DeepSeek describes Harness as open-source agent-harness software in public preview. Its developer overview presents it as a plugin-based system: components for models, tools, skills, sessions, sandboxes, storage, execution loops, scheduling, and user interfaces can be swapped or recomposed. How can you start Harness?
DeepSeek’s developer page documents a web-UI quick start and a source-installation route. Its current product page also mentions desktop-app use, but does not establish the exact release history or installer details behind that statement.
Launch the web UI
- Install Node.js.
- Open a terminal and run
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web, as documented in the developer preview overview.
Install from source
The official developer page also offers cloning the official repository as a source-installation option. Consult that page for its current repository and setup instructions; the evidence available here does not establish desktop installer platforms or system requirements.
Is DSH Desktop an official DeepSeek app?
No. DSH Desktop says it is community maintained and that its desktop application is not an official DeepSeek product. It describes its package as a Tauri shell with a Rust supervisor sidecar and bundled Node.js runtime running the unmodified Harness web UI.
