It brings together four playable factions, a campaign with more than 70 missions, solo and co-op play, and competitive multiplayer. Here is what the publisher and developers have announced—and what remains unconfirmed before release.
When does Dawn of War IV release, and what platforms are confirmed?
Deep Silver and Steam currently list Dawn of War IV for Windows PC on December 3, 2026. Deep Silver says the Commander Edition includes a three-day early unlock beginning November 30. Release dates and edition details can change, so check the Steam listing and publisher page for current information.
The Steam listing marks detailed system requirements as “Coming soon.” The currently checked official information therefore does not establish what PC hardware you will need. The confirmed platform information is Windows PC; do not assume a console version from the available announcements.
What kind of gameplay does Dawn of War IV offer?
Deep Silver describes the game as a return to large-scale battles and base-building, with four mechanically distinct factions. Games Workshop has also highlighted an expanded Sync Kill system. These are announced features, not independent assessments of how the finished game plays.

In a developer multiplayer AMA, KING Art Games outlined faction-specific approaches to bases and territory. Space Marine structures can be upgraded to unlock units and research, and structures can be deployed from orbit within vision. Orks can build relatively inexpensive armed structures, letting them push their base toward the front. Necron buildings spread a Power Matrix that affects the economy and empowers units; Tomb Pylons can provide teleport destinations. Adeptus Mechanicus structures connect to headquarters through a Noosphere Network, which unlocks stronger weapons and provides economic and combat benefits to connected units and buildings. These descriptions establish intended differences, not proven optimal strategies. KING Art’s multiplayer AMA
Positioning, cover, retreat, and reinforcements
The developers say tactical control includes positioning, unit matchups, upgrades, and abilities. Cover reduces ranged damage; Orks can create cover, Adeptus Mechanicus can build structures that units can garrison, and Necrons do not use cover. Retreat can disengage or reposition a unit while reducing incoming damage, but it temporarily removes that unit from player control. On-field reinforcement spends resources to keep units fighting, and the developers caution that extensive auto-reinforcement can drain the economy. These mechanics are described by the developers and have not been independently tested here.

How does the campaign work, and can you play co-op?
Yes. The announced campaign supports solo play or play with a friend. Games Workshop announced more than 70 campaign missions, while Deep Silver describes four faction campaigns that feed into one overarching narrative. The story is credited to Black Library author John French. Mission count and story details are publisher-announced features, not a review of the final campaign.
Deep Silver’s official FAQ puts the structure this way: “The game features four mechanically distinct factions, with each faction enjoying a unique campaign that feeds into a single overarching narrative.” Deep Silver, official Dawn of War IV FAQ

The AMA says matchmaking can include any or all of the three competitive modes. It also describes commanders as generic faction units chosen before a match, alongside faction and starting-position selection. Match settings can make commanders starting units or disable them. KING Art acknowledged the challenge of balancing asymmetric factions and said it intends to use player data and feedback after launch; that is a development plan, not evidence of final balance.
