Yes—DaVinci Resolve is used in Hollywood-linked professional productions. Blackmagic Design says the editors of the 2026 Sundance film I Want Your Sex used Resolve Studio and Blackmagic Cloud for the full edit. The available examples also show Resolve in color grading and finishing. They do not establish that Resolve is Hollywood’s default editing system or show how widely it is used today.
What the documented examples show
A feature edited in Resolve
In a 2026 announcement about Sundance projects, Resolve’s maker, Blackmagic Design, reported that Gregg Araki and coeditor Victor De La Parra used Resolve Studio and Blackmagic Cloud for the full edit of I Want Your Sex. That is a specific example of feature-film editing, not evidence that most major films are edited in Resolve. Blackmagic Design’s Sundance announcement
The same announcement describes other Resolve work on Sundance projects, including creating color looks for Buddy. That distinction matters: using Resolve for a particular post-production task does not necessarily mean a production used it for its entire edit.

Grading and finishing across television projects
A 2017 announcement hosted by the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) describes Resolve Studio use among more than 40 fall television and streaming series. It reports that The Loft Post used the software for online editing and color grading on network shows. The announcement also names digital-imaging-technician (DIT) work on Designated Survivor and Kevin Can Wait; DIT or on-set use is not proof that a series used Resolve as its final editorial system. #1 Best Overall
Blackmagic Design’s 2017 announcement reported that approximately 85 percent of the 140-plus over-the-air, over-the-top, and cable series and shows posting at Deluxe’s Encore, Level 3, Company 3, and EFilm facilities used Resolve Studio for color grading. It said some also used Resolve for conforming. This is a historical vendor-reported figure limited to those facilities and shows—not a current, independently audited estimate of Resolve’s share of all Hollywood work. The HPA-hosted announcement
Why “used in Hollywood” needs context
A film or series passes through distinct stages, and tools can differ between them. Offline editing is where an editor assembles the story from footage. Color grading shapes the image’s look; conforming matches the finished edit to full-quality source media; finishing prepares a project for delivery. A production might use Resolve in one or more of these stages without using it for the full edit.
Rank #2
So the answer depends on what “used” means. The I Want Your Sex example documents a full edit; the older television examples document grading, online editing, and some conforming. Together they establish professional use, but they do not establish a current industry-wide editing norm or rank Resolve against other systems by adoption. Blackmagic’s product-page description of Resolve as “Hollywood’s most popular” is promotional language, not a measured market-share statistic. For editors who want physical controls, Blackmagic also lists the Resolve Speed Editor, an editing keyboard with a large search dial, dedicated editing keys, and Bluetooth connectivity. It is optional; it is not a requirement for using Resolve. DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor

What this means if you are choosing an editor
- For learning or independent projects: Resolve’s free edition offers a way to work in the same application family used in the documented professional examples. A feature film’s workflow does not, by itself, show that the software will suit every project or team.
- For professional workflows: Evaluate the specific stage you need—editing, grading, conforming, effects, or audio—and the formats and collaboration requirements of your project. The cited examples establish use in several roles, not universal compatibility or adoption.
- For a physical editing surface: Consider the Speed Editor only if dedicated keys and a search dial fit your preferences; the official product listing does not make it necessary.
