Datapod was presented in 2009 as a modular, containerized data-center concept—not as a software container technology. Its central idea was to combine IT equipment and supporting infrastructure in modules that could be arranged around a site’s available space and power. A September 14, 2009 report described an all-in-one option alongside separate access-control and utility modules, plus a planned integration with APC by Schneider.
What Datapod meant by “containers”
In this context, a container is a physical module for data-center equipment and infrastructure. Datapod was described as an Australian infrastructure company developing modular components to help organizations deploy data centers suited to their available space and power. The term has nothing to do with software containers such as those used with Docker or Kubernetes.
The company’s managing director, Scott Carr, said, “We can make the best use of your available space and power,” and described the concept as “the ultimate data center.” Those were promotional statements quoted in the 2009 report, not independently verified performance findings. DataCenterKnowledge’s September 14, 2009 report is the source for the concept and descriptions below.
How the modules were described
The report outlined two approaches: combine IT and supporting infrastructure in an all-in-one container, or use purpose-built modules for particular functions.

The report said the containers ranged up to the size of a 20-foot shipping container. That is a size description from 2009, not a current product specification or confirmation that a particular configuration remains available.
What the APC by Schneider announcement covered
Datapod had recently announced a partnership with APC by Schneider. The report said the arrangement would offer integration with APC’s InfraStruXure data-center architecture, Hot Aisle Containment System, and InRow Cooling solutions. The companies were initially targeting Asia/Pacific; expansion to other regions was described as a possibility, not a completed rollout.

Gordon Makryllos of APC by Schneider called the concept “the next evolution of containerized data centers.” This was a quoted characterization in the announcement, rather than an independent comparison showing that Datapod outperformed other approaches.

The report does not establish current availability, ownership or operation, specifications, pricing, deployment record, or whether the APC relationship continues.
