Exact routing can vary with product configuration and target-site behavior. Scrapfly’s own FAQ is explicit: “Does this replace my DataImpulse subscription? No. Proxy Saver is a middleware service between you and the existing provider. It saves bandwidth on existing proxy subscriptions.” You still pay DataImpulse for traffic that reaches the upstream proxy, and you add Proxy Saver’s own traffic charge.

How the middleware reduces billed bandwidth
Shared caching for repeat requests
When multiple jobs request the same URL or a reusable response, Proxy Saver can serve later requests from a shared cache instead of fetching the bytes through DataImpulse again. Scrapfly describes caching for repeat URLs, redirects and CORS preflight requests. Every cache hit is traffic that may no longer need to travel upstream, although freshness requirements and cache rules determine whether reuse is appropriate.
Optional asset stubbing
Many extraction jobs need the document or an API response, not every visual asset. Proxy Saver can optionally stub images and stylesheets so the browser or client receives a lightweight substitute rather than downloading the original file. This can materially reduce transfer volume, but it can also change page behavior. Do not enable it when the target task depends on image pixels, CSS layout, font loading or JavaScript that expects those assets.
Fewer handshakes and retries
Scrapfly presents connection reuse, keep-alives, HTTP/2 multiplexing, TLS-session resumption and DNS caching as performance optimizations. Reusing established connections can reduce handshake overhead and may make transient failures less likely. These mechanisms improve efficiency; they do not guarantee a particular reduction in your metered gigabytes.
Does it reduce a DataImpulse bill?
It can, but there is no universal percentage. Scrapfly advertises “50% reduction of typical usage” on its comparison material. That is a vendor claim, not an independent benchmark or a promise for every workload. Scrapfly also says the result varies with target sites, asset density, cacheability and retry profile.

The cost calculation to use
Use metered usage from the same period and the rates on your actual plans:
- Direct route: DataImpulse traffic consumed × your DataImpulse price per GB.
- Middleware route: Proxy Saver traffic charge + (DataImpulse traffic still consumed upstream × your DataImpulse price per GB).
Compare those totals, not the reduction in DataImpulse gigabytes alone. If Proxy Saver reduces upstream usage by 40 GB but charges for 35 GB itself, the relevant saving is the avoided DataImpulse charge minus the 35-GB middleware charge. Include any plan-specific volume discount and remember that unused DataImpulse traffic may remain available because it does not expire.
Scrapfly’s published figures
Scrapfly’s undated product page, accessed in 2026, lists $0.20 per GB and an additional $0.10 per GB with fingerprint impersonation. Prices are vendor-published and can change. Treat the “50% reduction of typical usage” figure in the same way: a qualified marketing claim, not a measured expectation.
How to test whether your workload benefits
- Record a baseline. For a representative period, capture DataImpulse gigabytes, request count, response sizes, retry count and the mix of HTML, API responses, images and stylesheets.
- Keep the workload constant. Use the same URL set, concurrency, headers, cookies and retry policy. Changing the job makes the comparison inconclusive.
- Start with conservative caching. Confirm that cached responses are acceptable for your freshness requirements. A cached page can be cheaper but stale.
- Measure cacheability. Separate repeated URLs from unique URLs and note responses that vary by cookie, authorization, query string or location.
- Test asset stubbing separately. Compare a run with normal assets and a run with images or stylesheets stubbed. Check extracted fields and page-dependent logic, not just bandwidth.
- Calculate both totals. Apply the formula above to Proxy Saver traffic and the remaining DataImpulse traffic. Repeat during a busier period if retries or target-site changes are seasonal.
Configuration and trust considerations
Changing proxy credentials
Scrapfly describes setup as replacing the credentials used by your software with credentials for a Proxy Saver instance. DataImpulse’s setup guidance likewise centers on placing proxy credentials in the selected application. Store the new credentials in environment variables or a secret manager rather than source code, and verify that every worker is using the intended endpoint.
HTTPS interception
The Proxy Saver page describes optional HTTPS interception that requires installing a certificate authority. Treat this as a deliberate trust decision: installing a CA allows the configured intermediary to inspect encrypted traffic. Use it only where your security policy permits it, scope it to the required environment, and remove it from machines that should not trust the certificate. HTTPS interception is not presented as mandatory.

Freshness and personalization
Responses that depend on authorization, cookies, geolocation or rapidly changing data may not be safe to share across requests. Test cache keys and bypass rules with authenticated pages and user-specific content before enabling broad caching.
Common failure modes and fixes
The DataImpulse bill barely changes
Likely causes: mostly unique URLs, uncacheable responses, large uncached assets, or retries that still go upstream. Fix: inspect repeated-request rates, response headers and retry logs; target only responses your workflow can safely reuse.
The page or parser breaks after optimization
Likely cause: an image or stylesheet was required by the page logic. Fix: disable stubbing for that asset class, or scope it to routes where the asset is irrelevant.
Results are stale
Likely cause: a cache lifetime longer than the data’s acceptable age. Fix: shorten the cache lifetime or bypass caching for time-sensitive endpoints.
Authentication or personalization leaks between requests
Likely cause: shared caching across requests that should be isolated. Fix: bypass shared caching for authenticated or cookie-dependent content and verify cache keys with separate test accounts.
Latency improves but cost does not
Likely cause: connection reuse reduces handshakes while nearly the same number of bytes still travels through DataImpulse. Fix: treat latency and bandwidth as separate metrics; savings require fewer upstream bytes or a lower-cost upstream plan.
When Proxy Saver is a good fit
- Many workers request the same pages, redirects or preflight endpoints.
- Your job needs a small set of document or API fields and can safely omit heavy assets.
- You can validate freshness and personalized-content rules.
- The avoided DataImpulse charge is greater than Proxy Saver’s own traffic charge.
A direct DataImpulse route may remain simpler when nearly every URL is unique, every response must be fresh, or the workflow depends on complete unmodified assets.
