Cypress 11 made Component Testing generally available for React, Next.js, Angular, and Vue, and changed several Component Testing APIs and behaviors. Cypress also reported startup improvements of up to 84% in its results, while noting that actual performance varies by situation. This is a historical overview of the November 2022 release; the sources cited here do not establish Cypress 11’s support status or suitability for new projects in 2026.

What was new in Cypress 11?

Component Testing became generally available

Cypress 11.0.0, released November 8, 2022, made Component Testing generally available for React, Next.js, Angular, and Vue. The Cypress Team said the API was stable and removed its beta designation. It described the API changes as groundwork for supported libraries and third-party integrations. Cypress’s November 4, 2022 announcement explains that transition.

Vendor-reported startup improvements

Cypress attributed startup improvements of up to 84% in its reported results to shipping a snapshot of its binary instead of source files. Cypress qualified the figure: performance varies by situation. Treat it as a vendor-reported result, not a guaranteed improvement for a particular project or an independently verified benchmark. The Cypress App changelog records the release claim.

What changed for Component Testing code?

The most consequential migration issues are mount behavior and API changes. If your tests use Component Testing, check these points against the Cypress version migration guide, which contains the version 11.0 instructions and framework-specific detail.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Repeated mounts replace the previous component

A subsequent cy.mount() call in the same test removes the previously mounted component. If a test needs multiple components present together, mount a single component that renders the needed components together, rather than relying on earlier mounts to remain in the test.

Mount options removed

Cypress 11 removed these mount options: cssFile, cssFiles, style, styles, stylesheet, and stylesheets. Search your Component Testing setup and mount calls for these names, then follow the migration guide’s framework-specific guidance for replacing their use.

React APIs removed

The migration guide documents removal of mountHook and unmount from cypress/react. If your tests or support code import either API, update those call sites using the guidance for your installed framework integration.

Vue mount return value changed

For Vue, the mount return value changed from the VueWrapper alone to an object containing wrapper and component. Code that treated the returned value directly as the wrapper may need to access the wrapper property instead. Check the migration guide before changing framework-specific test code.

How to assess a Cypress 11 migration

  1. Identify the exact release. Distinguish Cypress 11.0.0 from later 11.x releases; the changelog records separate follow-up entries.
  2. Check whether the project uses Component Testing. If it does, inspect the test support files, imports, mount options, and individual tests for the changes above.
  3. Review tests with multiple mounts. Confirm whether they expect a component mounted earlier in the same test to remain present. If so, restructure the test to mount a combined component.
  4. Follow the official migration guide. Use its instructions for the project’s framework and the exact code changes required; the notes here are not a substitute for its complete migration detail.
  5. Verify the target version’s release notes. Check the changelog for fixes and behavior specific to the 11.x version you intend to use.

How the 11.x releases differed

Cypress 11.0.0 was followed by 11.0.1 on November 9, 2022, 11.1.0 on November 14, and 11.2.0 on November 22. These are distinct releases, not interchangeable names for the initial 11.0.0 launch.

Release Date Examples recorded in the changelog
11.0.0 November 8, 2022 Component Testing generally available for React, Next.js, Angular, and Vue; binary snapshot change associated with Cypress’s startup-performance claim.
11.0.1 November 9, 2022 Follow-up release; consult the changelog for its complete entries.
11.1.0 November 14, 2022 Examples include fixes for migration workflow failures in TypeScript projects and a cypress run crash with the JUnit reporter.
11.2.0 November 22, 2022 “Run All Specs” returned behind the experimentalRunAllSpecs flag.

The versioned changelog provides the release-by-release entries; consult it for the full details before attributing a behavior or fix to a specific version.

Screenshot capture is a separate tool choice

Cypress is the subject of this release overview; a screenshot API is not a replacement for its test runner or Component Testing. For teams that separately need website screenshots through an API, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it removes known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and only clean shots are billed. Its API can return a screenshot or PDF, but it does not perform Cypress tests.

For example, this cURL request captures a page as WebP; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API options:

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cypress 11’s “generally available” label mean every Component Testing API stayed unchanged afterward?

No. The Cypress Team described the API as stable while Cypress 11 also changed mount behavior and removed or altered APIs. Use the migration guide for the specific version and framework.

Does Cypress 11’s reported startup improvement mean my tests will start 84% faster?

No. “Up to 84%” was Cypress’s own reported result, and Cypress said performance varies by situation.
