Spoilers ahead: this guide names major story branches and describes the broad outcomes of Cyberpunk 2077’s endings, including Phantom Liberty and The Tower.
The base game’s finale begins at Nocturne OP55N1, where V’s allies and completed questlines determine which assault routes are available. At Mikoshi, a final decision determines whether V returns to their body or Johnny takes it. Phantom Liberty adds separate character outcomes and can unlock The Tower, a distinct ending for V that does not return you to the open world afterward.

How the endings work
There is not just one ending choice. In the base game, the route you choose at Nocturne OP55N1 determines the assault and epilogue; the decision at Mikoshi then shapes the outcome. Phantom Liberty adds its own branching choices, and certain outcomes can make The Tower available as another way to conclude V’s story. The expansion is optional: it is not required to reach the original base-game endings. CD Projekt Red describes the game as a story shaped by choices that affect its direction and the people around V on its official Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty page.

Base-game ending routes
At Nocturne OP55N1, V meets Hanako at Embers and decides how to proceed. The routes below are the commonly described route families; a route can still lead to more than one outcome at Mikoshi.
| Route | How to make it available | What the route changes |
|---|---|---|
| Arasaka | Accept Hanako’s plan at Nocturne OP55N1. | The finale follows Arasaka’s plan and leads to an Arasaka-centered orbital-clinic aftermath and a final offer. This route has its own ending rather than simply being another version of the Sun, Star or Temperance outcome families. |
| Aldecaldos | Build V’s relationship with Panam and the Aldecaldos through their questline, then ask them for help at the rooftop decision. | The assault involves the nomads. Its epilogue can take V away from Night City or lead to a different Mikoshi outcome, depending on the final choice. |
| Rogue and Johnny | Ask Rogue for help at the rooftop decision. Johnny takes control for the assault. | This route follows the Afterlife/Rogue assault family and leads to the Mikoshi decision. |
| Hidden solo assault: Don’t Fear the Reaper | Meet the specific dialogue condition in the conversation with Johnny during Chippin’ In. If the option is missing on the rooftop, it was not unlocked earlier. | This is a hidden solo assault in the same broad Afterlife/Rogue route family, with distinct access and outcomes. It also leads to the Mikoshi decision. |
For the hidden option, the important condition is the particular Chippin’ In exchange with Johnny—not a simple relationship-percentage threshold. Preserve a save before the rooftop decision in case you want to revisit your available choices. RPG Site’s ending guide covers the base routes and the expansion branches.
What the Mikoshi choice changes
After the assault, the decisive question is whether V returns to their body or gives it to Johnny. The choice changes who keeps the body and the emotional direction of the epilogue; the route that brought V to Mikoshi still matters.
- V returns to the body: The epilogue follows V’s remaining time and circumstances, which differ by route. The major outcome families include Sun and Star.
- Johnny keeps the body: The outcome family is called Temperance and follows Johnny’s life in V’s body.
- Arasaka route: Its finale has a separate Arasaka-centered resolution and final offer, rather than fitting neatly into the Sun, Star and Temperance labels.
These labels describe broad outcomes, not a ranking. The game does not establish one as objectively best; which fits depends on the route and the fate you want for V and Johnny.

Phantom Liberty branches and The Tower
The expansion’s main split occurs in Firestarter: V sides with Songbird and helps her escape, or sides with Reed and helps capture her. That choice determines which later main job follows and which resolution choices become available. Its major outcome branches are distinct from the base-game ending routes.
| Firestarter decision | Follow-up job | Late decision and broad result | Can lead to The Tower? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Side with Songbird and help her escape. | The Killing Moon | At the late Songbird/Reed decision, the resolution determines whether Songbird is handed over or helped to escape. The choice affects Songbird, Reed and Alex. | Yes, if V hands Songbird over in the relevant Reed-aligned resolution and later accepts Reed’s offer to pursue treatment. |
| Side with Reed and help capture Songbird. | Somewhat Damaged | V can honor Songbird’s wish to die or refuse. The resolution affects Songbird, Reed and Alex, and whether Reed can later offer V the operation. | Yes, if the outcome results in Songbird being handed over and V later accepts Reed’s treatment offer. |
Dialogue wording can vary by route and localization, so follow the decision’s intent and the current job state rather than relying on one exact prompt. Specialist walkthroughs, including PowerPyx’s Phantom Liberty walkthrough, give route-specific mission guidance.
What The Tower is—and when to save
The Tower is a separate conclusion for V, reached through the relevant decision to hand Songbird over and then accept Reed’s later offer of treatment. Completing Phantom Liberty does not automatically end the main story; V must choose to pursue this resolution. The epilogue is called Things Done Changed.
CD Projekt Red Support says of the epilogue: “As there are no rewards gained during this epilogue, we allow the game and V’s story to simply end.” Support also states that you cannot return to the point of no return after completing it. Make a separate save before accepting the operation if you want to continue your existing playthrough. See the official support article on The Tower and the point of no return.
Best Value
- Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world, an action adventure story set in night city
- Become a cyberpunk, an urban mercenary equipped with cybernetic enhancements and build your legend on the streets of Night city
- Take the riskiest job of your life and go after a prototype implant that is the key to immortality
Can you keep playing after an ending?
For the base-game finale, Nocturne OP55N1 is the point of no return: finish an ending and the game returns you to the point before that finale, allowing you to continue the playthrough and explore other available routes. The Tower is the exception covered by CD Projekt Red Support: after Things Done Changed, you cannot go back to the point of no return. Keep a separate save before taking Reed’s operation if preserving that playthrough matters to you.
Version and ending details
End-credit details can change with updates. For example, CD Projekt Red’s version 2.11 patch notes announced an added Reed credits message for endings other than The Tower. That is a specific credits change, not a change to the route requirements described above.
