On April 3, 2023, Cybereason announced a $100 million investment led by SoftBank Corp. and said SoftBank executive Eric Gan would become its CEO, subject to board confirmation and customary regulatory approvals. The company later reported that the same 2023 funding round had expanded to $120 million; it was not a second, separate 2023 round.
What Cybereason announced in April 2023
Cybereason’s April 3, 2023 announcement paired an investment led by SoftBank Corp. with a proposed leadership change. The company said the funding would support global growth and innovation in its extended detection and response (XDR), endpoint detection and response (EDR), and endpoint protection platform (EPP) solutions. At the time, Gan was an Executive Vice President of SoftBank Corp. Cybereason said he would serve as its new CEO, but made the appointment subject to company board confirmation and customary regulatory approvals. Co-founder and then-CEO Lior Div was to move into an advisor role. The release described Gan’s relationship with Cybereason as dating to SoftBank’s 2015 investment and cited prior roles at SoftBank, eAccess, and Goldman Sachs.

How the 2023 funding figure changed
In September 2023, Cybereason said its latest round—initially announced in April—had expanded to $120 million, with SoftBank Corp. leading and additional backing from existing investors. The company also announced Manish Narula as CFO and Gregory Puff as General Counsel. Read the September 21 announcement.

These are company-announced financing amounts. The September 2023 figure updates the April round; adding the April $100 million to the September $120 million would count the same round twice.
The later CEO and company-status changes
On March 10, 2025, Cybereason announced a separate additional $120 million investment led by SoftBank Corp., SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and Liberty Strategic Capital. That release said Narula would serve as CEO, effective immediately. It also said Cybereason would pursue an expanded strategic relationship with Trustwave rather than complete a previously announced intent to merge. Read the March 10, 2025 announcement.

For present-day context, LevelBlue’s newsroom lists completion of its acquisition of Cybereason on November 25, 2025. The April release documented the investment and a conditional CEO transition; it did not say that the appointment’s stated conditions had already been met on April 3. Gan’s release also included his assessment that Cybereason had become a cybersecurity leader, citing its Gartner Magic Quadrant position and MITRE ATT&CK results. That characterization was Gan’s statement in the company’s press release, not an independent finding established by the funding announcement. See the original release.
