Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe Crucial X6 2TB (model CT2000X6SSD9) is a compact portable SSD with a USB-C interface and a manufacturer-rated sequential read speed of up to 800MB/s. That figure is a maximum measured by Crucial in a specific desktop test, not a guarantee of the speed you will see with every computer or file transfer. This is a specifications-based review: the available information establishes the drive’s advertised features and compatibility, but not independent performance results, current pricing, or hands-on observations.
What the Crucial X6 2TB offers
Crucial’s 2021 product flyer identifies the 2TB version as CT2000X6SSD9. Its headline specifications describe an external SSD intended for portable storage and transfers over USB Type-C.

How fast is the X6 2TB?
Crucial advertises sequential reads of up to 800MB/s for the 2TB model. The company says it measured maximum sequential performance on a high-performance desktop using CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2 for x64, and cautions that actual results may vary. Treat 800MB/s as a manufacturer test ceiling under those conditions, not a typical transfer rate or a promise for sustained writes, small files, or every host computer.

Your connection matters as well. The drive’s stated interface supports up to 10Gb/s, but a USB 5Gb/s port is backward compatible and will constrain the connection relative to a 10Gb/s host. Real performance also depends on the computer, workload, and other conditions. The available specifications do not establish an independently measured result for a particular 2TB sample.
Compatibility and connection requirements
Crucial lists Windows, macOS, Android, iPad Pro, PS4 and Xbox One as compatible platforms. The flyer qualifies compatibility: formatting and host capabilities can affect whether a device works as expected. It specifically identifies iPadOS 13 for USB-C iPad Pro. Check the requirements of your particular device and intended use rather than assuming every platform or configuration will support the same features.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
The included cable is Type-C to Type-C. If your computer or console has only USB-A, Crucial says a USB-A adapter is available separately. The drive can connect to older 5Gb/s USB standards, though the host connection may limit transfer speed.
Drop protection, warranty and support
Crucial’s flyer says the X6 was tested for a drop of up to 6.5 feet (2 meters) onto a carpeted floor without impact to data on the drive. This is a limited, qualified manufacturer claim; it does not establish waterproofing or protection from every fall. Crucial also describes shock, vibration and extreme-temperature resistance, but those claims are not independently verified here.

The X6 is worth considering if you want a 2TB portable SSD with a USB-C connection and need a drive listed by Crucial for a range of computers, tablets and consoles. A portable SSD can make it easier to carry files and move them between compatible devices than relying on a larger desktop drive, but compatibility and formatting still matter.

- HUGE CAPACITY: Up to 4TB, storage capacity - enough for up to 20,000 photos, 100 hours of video, 6,000 songs, or 400GB of documents with room to spare
- FAST: Read speeds up to 800MB/s – that's 5.6x faster than most hard drives
- TINY, LIGHTWEIGHT: Fits between your fingertips and weighs less than your car keys
- BROAD COMPATIBILITY: Works with PC, Mac, Android, iPad Pro (PS4, Xbox One, and USB-A computer require USB-A adapter, available separately)
- RELIABLE AND DURABLE: Backed by Micron, one of the largest manufacturers of flash storage worldwide
Before choosing it, compare the things that determine fit for your setup:
- Capacity: 2TB is nominal; formatted usable space will be lower.
- Port: Check whether your host has USB-C or whether you need a separately purchased USB-A adapter.
- Performance: Compare independent tests run under matching conditions if transfer speed is a deciding factor. The 800MB/s figure is Crucial’s maximum sequential-read claim, not an independent benchmark.
- Device and filesystem support: Confirm the format and capabilities required by your computer, tablet, or console.
- Protection and warranty: Compare the exact drop-test conditions and the warranty terms for your region.
- Value: Compare the current price per usable terabyte when you shop; a current price is not established here.
Verdict
The Crucial X6 2TB has a clear, useful specification: USB-C connectivity, a nominal 2TB capacity, and an advertised maximum sequential read of up to 800MB/s. Its broad compatibility list and qualified carpeted-floor drop claim may suit portable everyday storage, provided your host and formatting are compatible. The available evidence is not enough to judge real-world speed, sustained transfer behavior, or value against competing drives, so use independent comparable testing and current local pricing if those decide your purchase.
