Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remastered keeps the original 1997 game’s rescue-platforming premise and familiar moves, while updating its presentation, controls and camera. It also adds Crocipedia, an archive of development material, and the current Platinum Edition adds Time Attack and other features. Argonaut describes it as a remaster, not a remake; its published feature lists do not establish exact resolution, frame rate or complete level-by-level parity.
What changed in the remaster?
Argonaut’s official product page names four main updates: enhanced HD graphics, modern control mechanics, an updated camera and retro video modes. These are publisher-listed features, not the results of a documented head-to-head technical test. The page does not specify resolution, frame rate, or precisely how the retro modes reproduce the original’s image.

The remaster is presented as an authentic version of the familiar adventure rather than a remake. Argonaut founder Jez San described its aim as combining enhanced HD graphics and updated modern controls with an authentic gameplay experience in a GOG Pressroom announcement dated October 24, 2024.
How much does the gameplay differ?
The familiar platforming premise
Croc still runs, jumps, climbs and swims, and uses a tail-spin attack as he tries to rescue the Gobbos from Baron Dante and the Dantinis. Argonaut lists 45 levels across five worlds on the remaster’s official product page.
#1 Best Overall
What the original asked players to do
The original Windows manual describes six Gobbos to find in each level, along with white and colored crystals, keys, switches, extra lives and optional secret areas. Its description of 100% completion calls for finding all Gobbos and jigsaw pieces, completing all secret levels and defeating all Guardians. These details explain the original’s objective structure, but do not prove that every objective or layout is unchanged in the remaster.
Controls and camera
Argonaut confirms that the controls and camera have been updated, but does not publish a complete input mapping or a control-by-control comparison with the original. The feature description therefore supports saying that both have been modernized; it does not establish that every former control or camera issue has been fixed.
Rank #2
- Croc's got the moves! Help Croc, the crusading crocodile, rescue his peace-loving Gobbo friends from the grasp of the evil magician Baron Dante. Guide him through a beautifully-rendered 3D world, on a free-roaming adventure against the evil Baron and his devilish assistants - the Dantinis!
What is Crocipedia?
Crocipedia makes the remaster more than a presentation update. Argonaut says the archive includes character and level concept designs, animation tests, game design documents, promotional items, pre-release soundtrack mixes and documentary interviews with contributors. It is additional historical and development material, rather than a new set of platforming levels.
What does the Platinum Edition add?
Argonaut describes Platinum Edition as a significant free update. Its FAQ lists these additions:
Rank #3
- Time Attack mode.
- 16 new trophies or achievements, depending on platform.
- More than 25 Crocipedia additions.
- A main-menu option to choose among theme mixes.
- Bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
Argonaut says platform versions match as much as possible, while acknowledging that platform restrictions can create differences. The listed trophies and achievements should therefore not be taken to mean that every platform presents them in the same way.
How do existing owners get Platinum Edition?
According to Argonaut’s FAQ, existing purchasers on platforms other than PlayStation receive the update automatically. Owners of the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 version can obtain the Platinum Edition version free through the PlayStation Store if they previously purchased the game. Store instructions and eligibility can change, so check the current listing for the relevant platform.
Rank #4
- Stunningly rendered real-time 3D graphics and seamless animation
The same FAQ says the original Windows version is included with a purchase of the remastered version on GOG. Check the current GOG listing to confirm that bundle terms still apply.
What is not confirmed by the official feature lists?
The published descriptions do not give measured resolution or frame rate, compare loading times, or provide a systematic audit of level layouts and mechanics. They also do not establish exact visual fidelity between the retro modes and the 1997 release. Argonaut’s stated features are useful for identifying what was intended to change, but they are not a substitute for measured performance data or a documented level-by-level comparison.
