A credit card skimmer was present on Tupperware’s U.S. and Canadian checkout pages from March 19 through March 24, 2020, according to Alberta’s privacy commissioner. The unauthorized code was designed to capture information shoppers entered during checkout. Contemporary reporting described a fake payment form built to look legitimate, but the available records do not establish how many people entered information or whether any particular shopper was affected.

Malwarebytes published its technical account on March 25, 2020. These dates describe a historical incident, not a current warning about Tupperware’s website.

In the account reported by BleepingComputer, the imitation could show a payment-session timeout message. A shopper might then re-enter details into the legitimate form, unaware that information submitted through the fake form had already been captured. Malwarebytes researcher Jérôme Segura said the attackers copied the timeout message used by the CyberSource payment platform. BleepingComputer’s March 25, 2020 report

The regulator’s record confirms that the unauthorized code was designed to capture information entered during checkout. The list above reflects Malwarebytes’ technical analysis of the form; it does not establish that every field was submitted by a shopper or that any particular person’s information was captured.
How was the skimmer hidden, and what is known about the cause?
Malwarebytes traced the code that loaded the fake checkout iframe to JavaScript embedded after the end marker in a malformed PNG image. Its analysis said the image resource on Tupperware’s site caused the iframe to be dynamically created. This is the researcher’s technical account; the regulator separately found that unauthorized checkout code was present and designed to collect entered information.

The initial access method was not established in the reporting. Malwarebytes cited a scan suggesting Tupperware might have been running an outdated version of Magento Enterprise, but presented that as a possible clue, not a confirmed explanation. The available accounts do not prove that a particular software version or vulnerability caused the incident.
What cleanup did contemporary reports describe?
Malwarebytes said its monitoring found the malicious PNG had been removed by March 25, 2020, at 1:45 p.m. Pacific Time, and that the JavaScript calling it was removed later. BleepingComputer reported that Tupperware had restored the payment form to the legitimate CyberSource domain, while attacker code remained at the time of that report. Malwarebytes later updated its account to say the remaining client-side artifacts had been removed. These are observations reported at the time, not evidence about the website’s security today.

The dates show when the code was present, not whether a particular visitor used checkout or submitted information to the fake form.
