Make (formerly Integromat) can automate the handoffs around creative work: when a brief or asset record arrives in one app, a scenario can pass selected information to another app, transform it, or route it for follow-up. It is a general workflow automation platform, not a tool that creates original creative work or judges whether an asset is good. A reliable first workflow has one clear trigger, one useful destination, a small set of mapped fields, and a test before it is scheduled.
What is Make?
Make describes itself as a no-code integration platform. You build workflows called scenarios from app modules. A module may watch for an event, retrieve or transform data, or perform an action in a connected service. Make’s official pricing FAQ defines a scenario as “an automated workflow that you build using Make” and describes the common pattern: receive a trigger, transform information, and send it to another app (Make pricing FAQ).
For a creative professional, that can mean moving project details between a form, a project tracker, a spreadsheet, a file-management service, or another connected app. It automates the administrative movement of information; it does not establish creative direction, make design decisions, or guarantee that work meets a brief.
How can Make help with creative work?
Think of Make as connective tissue between the tools you already use. For example, suppose a new brief or asset record is added to an app. A scenario could receive that event, map selected fields such as project name, deadline, or asset link, and send or record those fields in a second service. Make’s pricing page gives a new spreadsheet row as an example trigger and Airtable as a destination. The exact available modules and fields depend on the connected apps and their integrations; that example is not a tested or universal recipe.

- Keep handoffs consistent: map only the fields another person or system needs.
- Route exceptions: as a workflow grows, routers and filters can direct records down different paths, while aggregators can combine data. These are advanced building blocks, so add them only when a simple linear scenario is insufficient.
- Schedule routine runs: scenarios can run on a schedule, subject to the plan and scheduling options available to your account.
Connections differ. Some services connect through sign-in; others require credentials such as an API key or client ID. If an app is not available directly, Make’s introduction to apps says its HTTP app can connect to services with a public API. That path requires working with the service’s API and is more technical than choosing a ready-made app module.
How do I automate a creative workflow with Make?
Start with a narrow workflow whose result you can verify. The following sequence follows Make’s documented setup flow; exact screens and available modules can vary by app and account.
- Define the handoff. Write down what event starts the workflow, what information must move, where it should go, and what a successful result looks like. Avoid automating a process whose fields or ownership are still unclear.
- Prepare app access. Confirm that you can sign in to each service and that your account has permission to read or create the required records. For API-based connections, gather the service’s required credentials and check its API requirements.
- Create a scenario and add the trigger app. Choose the app and module that represent the starting event, such as a new record or row if that event is supported. Authorize the connection when prompted and configure the event details.
- Add a destination module. Select the app and action that should receive the information. Configure any required fields in that module.
- Map only the needed data. Connect source fields to destination fields. Check how empty values, dates, links, and text are represented; a field that looks right in the editor can still be missing or formatted differently in a real record.
- Test with safe sample data. Run the scenario manually or use the available test/run controls. Inspect the resulting record in the destination app and correct field mappings or connection permissions before relying on it.
- Add logic only when needed. Use filters for conditions, routers for separate paths, or aggregators for combining information when the workflow requires them. Test each meaningful path, including the case where a condition is not met.
- Schedule and monitor. Turn on the schedule only after the test produces the intended outcome. Confirm the interval is appropriate and periodically inspect scenario runs so a changed permission, API, or field does not silently disrupt the handoff.

Can I start with a Make template?
Yes. Make describes templates as ready-to-use scenarios that can be used as-is, edited, expanded, shared, and reused. Templates are available on all plans. Make’s Help Center says its public template library spans over 7,500 use cases; that is Make’s published count, not an independently verified inventory (Scenario templates).
- Search the template library by the apps you use or by the outcome you want.
- Open a candidate and inspect its trigger, modules, connections, and mapped fields before adopting it.
- Replace example connections and field mappings with your own, and remove steps that do not fit your process.
- Test with safe sample records and verify the results in every destination before scheduling.
A template is a starting point, not a guarantee that the scenario matches your accounts, permissions, data structure, or creative process.
How much does Make cost, and how should creative teams estimate usage?

Estimate usage by considering how often the trigger occurs, how many module actions each run performs, the scheduling interval, and unusually busy periods or other higher-usage cases. A scenario with multiple actions per event can consume more credits than a simple one-action handoff.
Before selecting a plan, compare the allowance with expected usage and consider the controls your workflow needs: run frequency, active scenarios, data transfer, API access, execution priority, logs, team collaboration, and organization controls. What can go wrong, and how do you troubleshoot it?
- The trigger does not see the expected record: check the connected account, the selected trigger, and its configured scope or event. Confirm the sample record exists and that the account can access it.
- The scenario fails to connect: re-authorize the app connection or verify the required credentials. Some connections use sign-in while others need an API key or client ID; confirm the requirements for the specific service.
- The destination has blank or incorrect fields: inspect the mapping and the source record’s actual values. Check for optional or empty fields, mismatched formats, and fields that the destination requires.
- The scenario works in a test but not after scheduling: confirm that the scenario is enabled and scheduled as intended, and inspect the run history for permission changes, missing data, or service errors.
- An app is not available in the app picker: check whether the service exposes a public API that can be called through Make’s HTTP app. That approach requires API-specific setup; it is not equivalent to a ready-made integration.
- Usage is higher than expected: count module actions per run and multiply by expected trigger frequency. Consider whether extra branches, polling frequency, or busy periods raise consumption, then compare the estimate with the current credit allowance.
- A template behaves differently from the example: review every connection, trigger, and mapping, then test with records shaped like your real data. A template’s presence does not mean its assumptions match your account.
How should you decide whether to automate a creative handoff?
Automate a stable, repeated information handoff when you can name its trigger, destination, and success condition. Begin with the simplest scenario, validate the data at both ends, then add branching or scheduling. Before committing, confirm that the necessary apps and permissions are available, estimate credits from actions and frequency, and account for any separate provider charges. Use templates to shorten setup, but review and test them as your own workflow rather than treating them as finished policy.
