Short answer: choose Crawlbase when you need a broader web-data platform with crawling, an asynchronous enterprise queue, geo-targeted proxies, storage, managed scrapers, or an MCP server. Choose ScrapingBee when you want a focused HTTP scraping API with browser rendering, classic or premium proxies, screenshots, and CSS or AI extraction under predictable monthly credit plans. Neither price sheet proves success on your target sites, so benchmark representative URLs before committing.

What each service is built to do

Crawlbase is a multi-product platform

Crawlbase uses one account and authentication model across its Crawling API, asynchronous Enterprise Crawler, Smart AI Proxy, Cloud Storage, managed scrapers, and Web MCP Server. That breadth matters when a pipeline must fetch pages, route around blocking, queue very large URL sets, retain results, and expose live data to AI agents without stitching together several vendors.

Its proxy layer supports residential and datacenter routing, geo-targeting, sticky sessions, and server-side challenge handling. JavaScript rendering is enabled with a JavaScript token; rendered requests consume twice the normal request credits. The Enterprise Crawler is designed for large URL queues and webhook delivery rather than one request at a time.

ScrapingBee is a focused scraping API

ScrapingBee concentrates on API calls for HTTP fetching, headless-browser JavaScript rendering, proxy selection, screenshots, and extraction. You can choose classic or premium proxy modes, or let Auto-Mode select a configuration that succeeds. CSS extraction and AI extraction are available when returning structured fields is more useful than storing raw HTML.

The service publishes fixed monthly plans and charges API credits according to the options used on each request. The reviewed documentation emphasizes API calls and plan concurrency; it does not describe a Crawlbase-style asynchronous crawler, first-party storage product, or MCP server.

JavaScript rendering, proxies, and anti-bot work

When Crawlbase is the better fit

Use Crawlbase if rendering is only one part of a larger acquisition system. Its crawler can accept a queue and deliver results through webhooks, while Smart AI Proxy and the proxy controls handle location, session persistence, and difficult targets. A team that also needs Cloud Storage or agent access through MCP can keep those capabilities under the same account and credit model.

Plan for the JavaScript multiplier: enabling browser rendering doubles request credits. Other domain-complexity or routing choices can also affect consumption, so a “request” is not a reliable unit for forecasting without classifying the pages you will fetch.

When ScrapingBee is the better fit

ScrapingBee is easier to reason about when the application is primarily a request API. A static fetch can use the classic proxy at one credit. Adding JavaScript raises that to five credits. Premium proxy without JavaScript costs ten credits, and premium proxy with JavaScript costs twenty-five. AI extraction adds five credits. Auto-Mode can select a working configuration when you do not want to encode proxy decisions in your client.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those multipliers make a browser-rendered, premium-proxy call twenty-five times the cost of a basic classic-proxy request. Separate static, JavaScript, premium, screenshot, and extraction workloads in your forecast instead of multiplying page count by one headline number.

Pricing: compare effective cost, not the headline allowance

Crawlbase pricing

Crawlbase lists a graduated pay-as-you-go ladder from $3.00 down to $0.02 per 1,000 successful requests. The applicable rate depends on the tier reached, so the lowest figure is not a universal per-request price. Subscriptions start at $99 per month and list plans containing 200,000 to 2 million credits. A free allowance of up to 5,000 requests is available without a credit card.

Crawlbase states that only successful requests are billed, regardless of site or rendering mode. JavaScript rendering still doubles the credits consumed by a successful request, so success-only billing does not mean every successful page costs one credit.

ScrapingBee pricing

Plan Monthly price Included credits
Hobby $19 75,000
Freelance $49 250,000
Startup $99 1,000,000
Business $249 3,000,000
Business+ $599 8,000,000

ScrapingBee also lists a 1,000-credit free trial. The plans are monthly bundles, while the credit cost of each call varies by proxy, JavaScript, and extraction settings. The pricing page says successful requests are billed and that plans can be canceled at any time.

If AI extraction is added to a JavaScript request, add five credits to that request’s base rendering and proxy cost rather than treating extraction as a replacement. For Crawlbase, model rendered and non-rendered traffic separately and apply the published graduated rate only after you know the successful-request volume and tier.

Which service should you choose?

Choose Crawlbase when platform breadth reduces engineering work

  • You need an asynchronous queue for a large URL inventory and webhook delivery.
  • The same project requires crawling, proxy routing, geo-targeting, storage, or managed scrapers.
  • You want an MCP endpoint so AI agents and language models can access live structured web data.
  • Your targets benefit from sticky sessions, residential routing, or server-side challenge handling.

Choose ScrapingBee when a focused API and transparent bundles matter

  • Your application makes ordinary API calls and does not need a separate crawler or storage layer.
  • You want explicit request-level choices for classic versus premium proxies, JavaScript, screenshots, CSS extraction, or AI extraction.
  • A published $19, $49, $99, $249, or $599 monthly bundle fits your budget better than a broader platform subscription.
  • You can forecast credit usage from the documented multipliers and control concurrency in your client.

Do not decide from price alone

Run the same representative URL set through both services. Include static pages, JavaScript-heavy pages, protected domains, geographic variants, and pages requiring extraction. Record whether the result is usable, total latency, selected options, credits consumed, and retries. Divide monthly spend by successful usable records, not by raw calls. A cheaper nominal credit can be more expensive if it produces fewer records or requires more retries.

Migration and implementation checklist

  1. Inventory request types. Label each URL as static, JavaScript-rendered, premium-proxy, screenshot, or extraction work.
  2. Separate credentials and budgets. Keep Crawlbase tokens and ScrapingBee API keys in environment variables, and assign a monthly credit ceiling before load testing.
  3. Preserve target metadata. Store URL, status, latency, proxy mode, rendering flag, extraction mode, and response quality for every attempt.
  4. Start with a small batch. Compare a few hundred representative URLs before moving a full queue or changing providers.
  5. Validate output, not only HTTP status. Check required fields, page title, content length, and whether a challenge page replaced the intended document.
  6. Use retries selectively. Retry transient network failures, but do not blindly retry deterministic blocks or malformed requests; those can increase credit consumption without improving yield.

Troubleshooting common problems

Credits are disappearing faster than page count

First inspect feature mix. On ScrapingBee, premium proxy plus JavaScript is 25 credits and AI extraction adds five more. On Crawlbase, JavaScript rendering doubles request credits and other routing or domain factors can change consumption. Export per-request metadata and recalculate by class rather than assuming one page equals one credit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pages return a challenge or incomplete content

Switching providers may not solve a target-specific block. Test residential versus datacenter routing, geographic location, sticky sessions, and JavaScript rendering where supported. Record the exact target and response type; benchmark success rather than relying on a marketing claim.

A large crawl is slow or difficult to coordinate

Use Crawlbase’s asynchronous Enterprise Crawler and webhook delivery when the workload is a queue of many URLs. If you stay with ScrapingBee, partition work into controlled batches and monitor plan concurrency; the reviewed material does not describe an equivalent managed queue.

Extraction output is unreliable

Compare raw HTML with CSS or AI-extracted fields on the same pages. Validate required fields and retain the source response for reprocessing. Treat AI extraction’s five-credit surcharge as part of the effective cost.

Bottom line

Crawlbase is the stronger candidate for a multi-stage web-data platform: queues, proxies, storage, managed scrapers, and MCP access in one ecosystem. ScrapingBee is the cleaner fit for a focused scraping API whose monthly plans and request-level credit multipliers are easy to model. Benchmark your own domains and calculate cost per usable result before switching. For screenshot-only workloads, ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try because its cleanup pipeline removes common page clutter and unsuccessful captures are not billed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are ScrapingBee screenshot calls assigned a separate published credit multiplier?

The published figures specify costs for proxy modes, JavaScript, and AI extraction, but do not state a separate screenshot multiplier. Check the current plan calculator or documentation for the exact screenshot request you intend to run.

Can one Crawlbase credit be compared directly with one ScrapingBee credit?

No. Crawlbase uses a graduated successful-request rate and applies rendering and other request factors, while ScrapingBee applies feature multipliers. Compare the total cost of the same successful, usable workload instead.
