The Crane Adorable is a family of animal-shaped ultrasonic cool-mist humidifiers, not one uniform model. The 2018 BabyGearLab review found its tested Hippo variant quiet and distinctive-looking, but relatively difficult to clean; its output and noise measurements varied across animal designs. Treat those results as historical tests of named versions, not current ratings for every Adorable humidifier.
What the Crane Adorable is—and which version was reviewed
Crane’s Adorable line uses animal-themed housings for ultrasonic cool-mist humidifiers. Listings have included designs such as the Hippo, Frog, Cow, Unicorn, and Train, but names, availability, and specifications can vary by model and seller. The reviewed product is identified as the Hippo in BabyGearLab’s test data.
Wendy Schmitz’s BabyGearLab review, published September 16, 2018, ranked its tested Adorable fifth out of nine humidifiers and gave it an overall score of 51. Those are the review’s results in a 2018 comparison, not a current market ranking. Its category scores were 4.0 for ease of cleaning, 5.0 for effectiveness, 7.0 for noise, and 5.0 for ease of use. The test review described the Adorable as relatively quiet overall, but output and sound differed among designs. BabyGearLab measured a 40.2 dB maximum for the Hippo, below 40 dB for the Frog, and 52 dB for the Cow. These figures are the review team’s measurements for those specific variants, not a guaranteed noise range for every unit.

The review also said the tested Hippo produced less mist than a Frog version the team had reviewed earlier. It gave effectiveness a score of 5.0. The review does not establish that every animal design has the same output, so check the exact model rather than relying on a result from another variant.
Specifications: the manual and review do not agree on coverage or noise
Two published sources give different room-coverage and noise figures. The available material does not explain whether the difference comes from model revisions, test conditions, or measurement methods.

Cleaning takes more effort
BabyGearLab found the tank opening too small for a hand to reach inside easily and recommended a bottle brush for the interior. It also described cleaning access as a weakness, reflected in its 4.0 ease-of-cleaning score. A narrow brush can help reach the tank, but it does not replace the care instructions for the specific unit.

It lacks some controls and is awkward when full
The review notes that the Adorable lacks a humidistat and adjustable mist direction. It also describes the full tank as awkward to handle. Those details matter if you want automatic humidity control, a directed plume, or especially easy refilling.
Size and output deserve a check
The review identifies a larger footprint as a drawback. Since mist output varies among designs and published coverage figures conflict, consider the exact variant and where it will sit rather than assuming one model’s performance applies to the whole line.

How to use and clean it safely
Crane’s 2016 manual calls for fresh, cool water; do not use hot water. It expressly says not to add medication, essential oils, or salt to the tank or basin. Unplug the humidifier before filling, emptying, cleaning, or maintenance. Follow the manual supplied with your unit if its instructions differ.
- Daily: Unplug the unit, empty the tank and base, and allow them to air-dry. Leave the tank cap off until the next use.
- Weekly: Clean with vinegar and rinse as directed in the Crane manual.
- For white mineral dust: The manual recommends filtered or distilled water, or a Crane Demineralization Filter cartridge. Confirm that a cartridge is compatible with your exact model before buying; filter support is not established for every animal design.
- To limit excess moisture: Crane says to leave the room door open and lower mist output in small rooms. Excess room humidity can cause moisture to collect on surfaces.
The manual’s warning is explicit: “DO NOT add any medication, essential oils, or salt.”

Who should consider the Crane Adorable?
It may suit someone who values an animal-shaped design and is comfortable with hands-on upkeep. It is a less obvious fit if easy tank access, automatic humidity sensing, adjustable mist direction, or straightforward handling of a full tank is a priority. Because the family includes variants with different reported sound and output, identify the specific animal model before applying any test result or checking filter compatibility.
