The Coway Airmega 450 is a large-room air purifier with strong published CADR figures, three filter configurations, and a sizable gap between its advertised one- and two-air-change room coverage. Coway lists up to 450 CFM for pollen; ENERGY STAR lists the same pollen and dust figures but a slightly higher smoke CADR. Those are published specifications, not independent test results, so the most useful way to assess the 450 is to match its ratings and maintenance needs to your room and priorities.
What the Coway Airmega 450 review finds
The Airmega 450 is a substantial fan-and-filter purifier intended for large spaces. Its key strengths on paper are high particle CADR ratings and multiple filter choices. The main qualifications are that room-coverage figures depend on the air-change rate, source records differ slightly on smoke CADR, and the product specifications do not establish independent real-world performance.
- Best fit: People seeking a large-room purifier who will compare CADR and coverage at the air-change rate they need.
- Consider carefully: Noise at stronger settings, the 24.9-pound body, and ongoing filter availability and cost.
- Connectivity: ENERGY STAR’s record for the listed Airmega 450 says it is not connected-capable.
How big a room can the Airmega 450 clean?
Coway’s U.S. product page gives two coverage figures: 3,285 square feet at one air change per hour and 1,643 square feet at two air changes per hour. The larger number assumes only one air change each hour; it should not be treated as equivalent to the two-air-change figure when comparing room claims.
ENERGY STAR lists a room size of 687 square feet for its certified-product record. That figure is presented separately from Coway’s air-change-based coverage claims, so the values should not be collapsed into a single coverage rating. For a purchase decision, use the room size and air-change rate appropriate to your needs rather than relying on the largest area headline alone.

Airmega 450 CADR: Coway and ENERGY STAR figures
Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) indicates the volume of filtered air delivered for specific particle categories. The two published records agree on dust and pollen but differ on smoke:

Which Airmega 450 filter should you choose?
Coway describes three custom 3-in-1 filter configurations. The right option depends on the filtration emphasis you want:
- Fresh Starter+: A vacuumable pre-filter, HEPA filter, and activated carbon.
- Allergen+: Adds an allergen absorber to the HEPA filter.
- Intense Smoke+: Uses a VOC absorber with HEPA and activated carbon.
Coway states that the filter set lasts 1+ year. Treat that as the manufacturer’s stated lifespan rather than a guaranteed replacement interval: actual service life can depend on conditions and use. Before buying an Airmega 450 replacement filter, confirm that it matches both the 450 and the specific filter configuration you intend to use. A replacement price or independent lifespan assessment is not established here.

How loud is the Airmega 450?
Coway publishes a sound range of 23.6–57.7 dB(A). The specification spans a wide range, and the upper end may matter if you plan to run the purifier at stronger settings in a bedroom or quiet workspace. These are manufacturer-published numbers, not independent acoustic measurements; the available figures do not provide a setting-by-setting comparison.
Power use, size, and connectivity
Coway lists power consumption at 72 W. ENERGY STAR’s certified-product record lists annual energy use of 389 kWh; that program figure does not predict an individual household’s exact electricity use or cost, which varies with operation and local rates.

That connectivity record does not support describing this listed model as Wi-Fi- or app-connected. Coway also says its real-time air-quality monitor “continuously tracks air quality and detects particles as small as PM 1, 2.5, 10.” That is Coway’s product-page description, not an independently verified sensor-accuracy result.

The 450 is worth considering if its published CADR ratings and filter options suit your space, and you are comfortable choosing coverage based on the air-change rate you actually want. It is less straightforward to recommend for someone who needs verified independent performance data, a confirmed app connection, or a known long-term filter cost. Those points are not established by the product specifications and certification record discussed here.

To compare it responsibly with another purifier, line up smoke, dust, and pollen CADR; coverage at a comparable air-change rate; replacement-filter availability and cost; noise measurements at comparable fan speeds; energy use under similar conditions; footprint; and connectivity.
