The TerraMaster F4-425 is the NAS model tied to the discount in the available deal coverage, but that offer was reported on August 11, 2026—not confirmed as active today. It may suit someone starting with centralized storage and local services, but the enclosure is diskless, so the cost of drives matters more than the headline discount.
Which NAS is the deal about?
The sourced match is the TerraMaster F4-425, a four-bay, diskless network-attached storage (NAS) system. TechRadar Pro reported it at Amazon for $365.48 on August 11, 2026, compared with a listed price of $429.99—a reported saving of $64.51, or about 15%. Those are figures from that dated article, not confirmation of the live price, stock, or current list price. Check the current listing before deciding whether it is discounted.
The deal article describes an Intel x86 quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, one 2.5GbE network port, and hardware-assisted 4K H.265 decoding. It also reports mobile management, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox synchronization options, and support for TerraMaster’s TRAID and TRAID+ storage configurations. These are reported product features, not independent performance-test results. Read TechRadar Pro’s August 11, 2026 deal report.
What will it really cost to get started?
The F4-425 is sold without drives, so the reported enclosure price is only part of the purchase. You will need to select and buy compatible drives separately; the deal article notes they may add hundreds of dollars. Work out the complete setup cost before comparing this offer with a populated NAS or another self-hosting option.

SPC module and CloudSync (compatible with Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox) enable seamless cross-platform synchronization and uninterrupted data access. Additionally, TerraSync enables two-way sync between the F4-425 and PCs/Macs
- Enclosure: use the current listing price, not the historical deal figure, in your budget.
- Drives: add the price of the drives you intend to install and check compatibility before purchase.
- Network equipment: budget for a 2.5GbE switch, adapter, or other compatible equipment only if your existing network cannot support the faster connection and you want to use it.
How much storage can you expect?
TechRadar’s reported maximum of 120TB is raw capacity from four 30TB drives, before accounting for redundancy. It is not a promise of 120TB of usable, protected storage. The usable amount depends on the drive sizes and storage arrangement you choose, including whether you reserve capacity for redundancy. Compare configurations by usable capacity and failure protection, not just the sum of the drive labels.
The article describes TRAID and TRAID+ as flexible configuration options, but it does not establish the usable capacity or protection level for every drive combination. Confirm the behavior of the configuration you plan to use in TerraMaster’s current documentation before buying drives.

Do you need a 2.5GbE network?
No. The 2.5GbE port is an opportunity to transfer data faster when the rest of the connection supports it; it is not a prerequisite for connecting the NAS. On a standard Gigabit network, that network equipment limits transfer speeds. A faster NAS port alone cannot make the entire path run at 2.5GbE.

Is it a sensible first self-hosting system?
A NAS can provide a central place for files and synchronization, and the reported media features may matter if you want to serve compatible 4K H.265 video. The F4-425’s four bays offer room to arrange multiple drives, but suitability depends on the storage configuration, total cost, and services you actually plan to run. The deal report does not establish how it performs under a particular self-hosted workload or how it compares with other NAS models.
Nor does local storage by itself guarantee privacy, eliminate subscriptions, or replace a backup. Treat a NAS as one part of a storage plan: decide what data it will hold and how you will keep a separate copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Should you buy it?
Consider the F4-425 if you want a four-bay NAS, are prepared to choose and purchase drives separately, and can justify its full setup cost for your storage and service needs. If the attraction is the August 2026 price, first verify whether that offer still exists; the dated report alone cannot establish a current bargain. Compare alternatives on total cost with drives, usable capacity after redundancy, networking from end to end, media needs, and the management experience—not on the enclosure discount alone.
TechRadar Pro also relays TerraMaster’s operating-noise figure of 21dB(A); that is a manufacturer-attributed figure in the article, not an independent measurement. It may be relevant if the NAS will sit near a workspace or living area, but it does not establish the noise of a complete system in your room.
