Yes—but only in a narrow, specific sense. A prescription video-game treatment called EndeavorRx improved a computer-based attention score in one controlled trial of children with ADHD. That finding does not show that video games generally treat ADHD, resolve all its symptoms, or replace medication and other care.
What does “video game treatment” mean here?
The research concerns EndeavorRx, prescription software delivered as an adaptive mobile-game experience—not ordinary commercial games or brain-training apps. Earlier studies called it Project:EVO or AKL-T01. Its algorithms adjust task difficulty as a child plays; the FDA-reviewed regimen was about 25 minutes a day, five days a week. The FDA’s 2020 De Novo review describes the original indication as improving attention function measured by computer-based testing in children ages 8–12 with primarily inattentive or combined-type ADHD and a demonstrated attention issue. The manufacturer’s current research page lists ages 8–17, so that broader age range should not be conflated with the population in the original FDA-reviewed evidence. What do the three studies show?
These studies differ in size and design. The strongest evidence among them comes from a randomized, digitally controlled trial; the smaller proof-of-concept study is preliminary.
1. STARS-ADHD: a randomized, digitally controlled trial
The pivotal study randomized 348 children ages 8–12 with demonstrated attention issues to EndeavorRx or a digital control for four weeks. Participants were off ADHD medication at baseline. The primary outcome was change in the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) Attention Performance Index: the FDA reported a 0.93-point improvement in the treatment group versus 0.03 in the control group (p=0.006). This supports an improvement on that particular attention measure; it does not demonstrate broad ADHD remission. FDA De Novo review

The manufacturer also reports that 73% of children in the pivotal study said their attention improved in an exit survey. That is a manufacturer-reported survey result, distinct from the trial’s primary objective test outcome. Manufacturer research page
2. STARS-Adjunct: treatment alongside usual care
The FDA describes a treatment month, a one-month pause, and a second treatment month; participants could be taking stimulant medication or not. The manufacturer says 68% of parents reported improvement in ADHD-related impairment after two months. 3. ADHD proof-of-concept study: early, smaller evidence
Forty children with ADHD and 40 healthy controls completed a four-week at-home intervention. The FDA reported a mean TOVA Attention Performance Index improvement of 1.43 in the ADHD group (p=0.03), with no significant change in controls. Unlike STARS-ADHD, this was not described as a randomized comparison against a digital control, so it is useful early evidence rather than an equally strong controlled estimate of treatment effect. What the evidence does—and does not—establish
The key distinction is between a measured attention outcome and ADHD as a whole. The FDA’s indication says patients may improve on TOVA-measured sustained and selective attention and may not benefit in typical behavioral symptoms such as hyperactivity. The reviewed trials therefore do not establish that the game cures ADHD, improves every core symptom, or is superior to medication or behavioral therapy. The FDA describes five clinical studies in total, including pilots involving ADHD with autism spectrum disorder and sensory processing disorder. The title’s reference to three studies is best understood as three relevant examples, not the entirety of the clinical evidence. FDA De Novo review
Is it a replacement for medication or other care?
No. The FDA-reviewed labeling says EndeavorRx is intended as part of a therapeutic program and is not a substitute for medication. Families should consider it as a possible adjunct for a specific attention outcome, in consultation with the child’s healthcare provider, rather than as standalone ADHD treatment. FDA De Novo review

What are the safety considerations?
The FDA review reported no serious adverse events in its clinical studies. Across 538 EndeavorRx-treated participants, 50 (9.3%) experienced treatment-related adverse events, generally described as transient. Separately, the manufacturer reports treatment-related events in 17 of 342 participants (4.97%) in two trials supporting the age 8–17 authorization, including decreased frustration tolerance and headache. The FDA review notes that the device may not be appropriate for people with photosensitive epilepsy, color blindness, or physical limitations that prevent use of a mobile device. The manufacturer advises pausing treatment and contacting a healthcare provider for certain symptoms, and stopping treatment and contacting the provider if a seizure occurs. How should families interpret newer real-world evidence?
ClinicalTrials.gov lists an EndeavorRx registry study (NCT05991167) intended to describe prescribing, treatment patterns, and outcomes in real-world use. A registry record describes a study; it is not itself evidence that the treatment works.
