For a 24/7 prerecorded bhajan stream, one India-focused provider comparison estimates a home PC at ₹2,300–2,500 per month, versus ₹999 per month for StreamNeo’s managed cloud slot. Those are provider-published examples, not a guaranteed like-for-like quote or a national cost average. The PC estimate assumes a particular electricity rate and includes assumed hardware and backup-power costs; your result depends on your measured power draw, local tariff, equipment and streaming hours.

The comparison’s ₹8/kWh is an assumption, not an India-wide electricity tariff. No independent tariff schedule or measured PC power draw is established here. Use your bill’s rate and a power meter reading for a more useful estimate.

Monthly energy cost = measured average watts ÷ 1,000 × operating hours × your electricity rate per kWh.
For example, the published estimate’s 120 W and 720 operating hours produce about 86 kWh in a month. Replace both the wattage and the ₹8/kWh assumption with your own measurements and tariff. For fewer than 720 hours, use the actual hours you stream.
Electricity is only one part of a fair comparison. Add hardware replacement or wear only if you want to account for it, plus backup power and any incremental broadband or data-plan cost that applies to your setup. Do not count the full price of an existing PC as a new monthly expense unless you are actually buying or replacing it for the stream.

2. Your own PC at home
A PC running OBS or another encoder gives you control over the video and can also support a live performer, camera, overlays or chat interaction. But for a prerecorded stream it leaves power, internet, restarts and monitoring in your hands. A UPS can provide runtime during a power interruption according to its capacity and the PC’s load; it does not keep an internet connection working if the connection fails.

Your own total may be lower than the published example if you already own the PC, it draws less power, your electricity is cheaper, or you only stream part of the day. It may be higher if your system draws more, you need a broadband upgrade, or backup power and hardware replacement matter in your calculation.
3. DIY VPS with ffmpeg
A VPS running ffmpeg can be a lower-cash-cost route for someone comfortable configuring Linux and maintaining a stream. The cited ₹300–800 monthly range is an indicative figure from StreamNeo’s comparison, not a verified quote for a particular provider or plan. Server bandwidth, storage or other charges may change the total.

A VPS is not automatically unattended. You are responsible for installing and configuring playout, protecting the stream key, setting restart behavior, checking that recovery works and monitoring failures. Include the value of that time when comparing it with managed playout.
Choose based on the broadcast you actually want
- Choose a home PC when you need a real-time human broadcast, camera, microphone, overlays or direct interaction, and can provide power, reliable upload, restarts and monitoring.
- Choose managed cloud playout when the content is prerecorded and should loop while your home equipment is off. Compare the recurring fee, storage and quality limits, billing terms and recovery behavior of the specific service.
- Consider a VPS when you are comfortable administering a server and the lower listed cash cost is worth taking responsibility for setup and recovery.
There is no universal winner on cost. An existing low-power PC used only for a few hours can beat a full-month subscription; for a PC running all month, the provider’s worked example makes the cloud slot less expensive than its estimated home-PC total. Those conclusions apply to the comparison’s assumptions, not every household.
YouTube settings and reliability still matter
Cloud hosting does not make a weak source video or unstable stream configuration reliable. YouTube’s guidance recommends choosing a quality your connection can sustain, testing upload bitrate and testing before going live; monitor stream health after launch. YouTube also transcodes live streams into formats for viewers.

For a PC or VPS encoder
- Use YouTube’s Live Control Room server URL and stream key in the encoder, and keep the key private.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Its guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265 or AV1 encoding, up to 60 fps, with CBR and a recommended two-second keyframe interval.
- As one official H.264 reference point, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommendations, not mandatory targets for every video; select a bitrate that your upload can sustain. A largely static bhajan visual may not need high-motion settings.
- Enable live streaming on the channel before scheduling around a first broadcast; first-time enablement can take time.
- Test the whole path before relying on it: video and audio, upload stability, encoder output and YouTube stream health.
For cloud playout
Upload the recording or playlist, connect the service to YouTube using the channel’s stream key, then check the live output in YouTube. Confirm the uploaded source is the quality you intend to broadcast and verify the stream after it starts. Keep the stream key private, including when entering it into any cloud service.

Having a devotional subject does not by itself establish that a recording is cleared for livestreaming. Check rights for the specific audio recording, arrangement, lyrics, visuals and any other material in the stream, especially if you use commercially released music or recordings made by someone else. A public-domain composition can still be embodied in a protected recording or arrangement. Use material you created or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules before building a channel around continuous rebroadcasts.
Also distinguish technical availability from monetization eligibility: a stream can be technically live without establishing that the channel or its content qualifies for monetization. Reused or repetitive content can raise separate policy issues; do not assume that looping a playlist will qualify merely because you have permission to use the files. Common cost and setup mistakes
- Treating the example tariff as your tariff: ₹8/kWh is the comparison’s assumption. Recalculate with your bill rate.
- Using a PC’s advertised power supply rating as its draw: estimate with a meter under the actual streaming workload, then apply the formula above.
- Ignoring backup power or broadband changes: include them only when they are incremental costs of your stream, and remember a UPS does not repair an internet outage.
- Assuming a VPS will restart itself: test restart and recovery behavior and arrange monitoring before depending on it.
- Choosing a bitrate your upload cannot sustain: test the connection and monitor stream health rather than relying on a headline speed.
- Confusing a prerecorded loop with a live performance: cloud playout can loop uploaded files, but it cannot provide a real-time singer, camera or response to chat.
- Assuming a stream is copyright-safe because it is devotional: verify rights to the particular recording and other media used.
