It launched on November 5, 2024, in 1TB and 2TB capacities; Corsair’s current product pages also list 4TB versions. You can choose a model with an integrated heatsink or a bare drive, and a PCIe 5.0 platform is needed to reach the family’s maximum throughput.
What is the Corsair MP700 ELITE?
The MP700 ELITE is Corsair’s mainstream-positioned PCIe 5.0 SSD family. The drives use a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface with NVMe 2.0, high-density 3D TLC NAND and the M.2 2280 form factor. Corsair announced the series on November 5, 2024, describing it as a lower-cost option than its earlier enthusiast products.
The drive is intended for compatible desktops and laptops. Its DirectStorage support is for compatible games; using DirectStorage requires a DirectX 12 GPU that supports Shader Model 6.0.
What speeds does the MP700 ELITE reach?
Corsair advertises peak sequential performance of up to 10,000MB/s read and 8,500MB/s write. These are vendor specifications, not independent benchmark results, and actual performance varies by capacity and platform. Corsair’s announcement describes the figures as speeds of “up to” those limits.

- Gen5 Storage Performance: The PCIe 5.0 x4 controller delivers up to 10,000MB/sec sequential reads and up to 8,500MB/sec sequential write speeds*, for phenomenal read, write, and response times *Performance and endurance vary by capacity
- Your PC Made Faster: Load games, boot Windows, open and transfer files, all faster than ever
- High-Density 3D TLC NAND: Provides the ideal mix of performance and endurance to keep your drive performing at its best for years
- Microsoft DirectStorage Support**: Enables the MP700 ELITE to communicate directly with your graphics card when playing compatible games, for unbelievably fast load times **DirectStorage requires a DirectX12 GPU with Shader Model 6.0 support
- Outstanding Endurance: Rated for up to 1,200TB Written, the MP700 ELITE’s longevity ensures that it reliably stores your data through many years of use
To approach the advertised maximum, the SSD needs a PCIe 5.0 x4-capable platform. Corsair says it is backward-compatible with PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 3.0 systems, but those older generations operate at reduced performance.
Which capacities are available?
Corsair’s November 2024 launch announcement listed 1TB and 2TB models. Current Corsair product pages also document 4TB versions, both with and without an integrated heatsink. The launch lineup and the capacities documented on current product pages are therefore not identical.

- Compact M.2 2280 Form Factor – Fits directly into most motherboards, with no heatsink attached for maximum compatibility
The current 4TB specification lists endurance of 2,400 TBW under Corsair’s stated endurance methodology. That rating applies to the 4TB specification and should not be assumed for every capacity.
Should you choose the heatsink or no-heatsink model?
Integrated-heatsink model
Choose the heatsink-equipped version if your system does not have suitable M.2 cooling and you have room for the drive’s integrated heatsink. Check your motherboard’s manual and physical clearances before buying, particularly if the M.2 slot is covered by a motherboard heatsink.

No-heatsink model
The bare-drive version is intended for systems that provide compatible motherboard cooling, and can also suit compatible laptops. It relies on the system’s cooling solution, so confirm that the M.2 slot is cooled appropriately for your setup rather than assuming the drive includes a heatsink.
Does the MP700 ELITE require a PCIe 5.0 motherboard?
No. Corsair says the drive works with PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 3.0 platforms. However, those connections limit throughput compared with PCIe 5.0; a PCIe 5.0 x4 platform is required for the drive’s highest advertised speeds. Check that your motherboard or laptop has a compatible M.2 2280 slot and supports the interface generation you expect to use.
