The COROS PACE 3 is the stronger choice if you want dual-frequency satellite tracking, route guidance, or longer official battery estimates. The PACE 2 remains a reasonable choice when Standard GPS meets your needs—especially if you already own one—because the available official specifications do not establish that every runner should upgrade.

What is different between the COROS PACE 3 and PACE 2?

The most consequential documented differences are satellite-mode options, route guidance, and manufacturer-estimated battery life. COROS lists the PACE 2 for Standard GPS, while the PACE 3 adds All Systems On and Dual Frequency. COROS also promotes route guidance for the PACE 3 and describes its navigation as breadcrumb navigation on a comparison page; that is not evidence of full offline maps.

The battery numbers below are COROS estimates, not independent test results. They are most useful when comparing like-for-like modes and usage conditions.

Which GPS modes matter for your runs?

Standard GPS: prioritize battery

Standard GPS is the battery-first option. COROS says it performs reliably with clear sky visibility and strong reception, but accuracy can drop where signals are obstructed, including around trees, tall buildings, and canyons. COROS recommends it when conserving battery is the priority.

All Systems On: the PACE 3’s general-purpose option

All Systems On uses GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, and QZSS. COROS calls it the recommended mode for most scenarios. Its stated PACE 3 activity estimate is 25 hours—less than the 38-hour Standard GPS estimate—so select it with your expected activity duration in mind.

Dual Frequency: for difficult reception

Dual Frequency is available on the PACE 3, not listed for the PACE 2, and is described by COROS as its most accurate satellite mode. COROS says it can help where signals are difficult to acquire or maintain, such as dense urban areas, deep canyons, or heavy forest. The tradeoff is higher power use: COROS estimates 15 hours of activity in this mode.

These are COROS’s mode descriptions, not independent comparative GPS tests. The official guidance is in Choosing the Right GPS Mode.

How should you interpret the battery estimates?

For the clearest comparison, compare the PACE 2’s 27-hour Standard GPS estimate with the PACE 3’s 38-hour Standard GPS estimate. Do not compare the PACE 3’s 15-hour Dual Frequency estimate with the PACE 2’s Standard GPS figure as if the settings were equivalent.

Daily-use estimates also vary by configuration: COROS lists 14 days for the PACE 2 and 17 days for the PACE 3 with sleep tracking, or 11 and 15 days respectively with sleep tracking plus daily stress. Actual results can be lower. COROS identifies backlight use, navigation, weak or lost satellite signal, external accessories, settings, and battery aging as factors that affect consumption or capacity.

Is the PACE 3 worth upgrading to from a working PACE 2?

Consider upgrading if a specific PACE 3 capability solves a problem you have: Dual Frequency for challenging signal conditions, route or breadcrumb guidance, or a longer Standard GPS estimate for longer outings. Those are concrete documented reasons to choose the newer model.

If Standard GPS is adequate and your PACE 2’s battery and features still suit your training, the available manufacturer information does not establish a must-upgrade case. Whether the PACE 3 is worth buying today also depends on current price and stock, which are not established here; compare current listings before deciding.

What else does COROS list for the PACE 3?

COROS describes free training solutions and lists synchronization options including Strava, Nike Run Club, Apple Health, and Health Connect. These are manufacturer-listed ecosystem features, not an independent assessment of how well the services work together. See the COROS PACE 3 product page for its description.

What this comparison cannot establish

The cited COROS material provides specifications and mode guidance, not an independent side-by-side evaluation. It does not establish which watch has better real-world GPS or optical heart-rate accuracy, durability, or battery performance in testing. Treat the stated runtimes as manufacturer estimates and choose satellite modes according to your own route and battery needs.
