To turn a PowerPoint presentation into a video, use the desktop app’s export feature: on Windows, choose File > Export > Create a Video; on Mac, choose File > Export and select MP4 or MOV. Set the resolution and decide whether to include recorded narration and timings before saving the video.
Convert a PowerPoint to video on Windows

Open the presentation in PowerPoint and save the
.pptxfile first. -
Choose File > Export > Create a Video. In some versions, the route is Recording > Export to Video.

Choose a video quality. Microsoft lists Ultra HD 4K (3840 × 2160), Full HD 1080p (1920 × 1080), HD 720p (1280 × 720), and Standard 480p (852 × 480). 4K availability depends on the PowerPoint version and platform. Higher quality produces a larger file. Microsoft recommends 1080p for most uses; 720p is an option when a smaller file matters more.

Choose whether to use recorded timings and narrations. If the presentation has recorded narration or slide timings you want to keep, select the option to use them. Preview the presentation first to check that the pacing is right.

If you are not using recorded timings, set how long each slide should appear. The documented Windows workflow defaults to five seconds per slide when recorded timings are not used.

Select Create Video, enter a file name and choose a folder, then select MPEG-4 Video or Windows Media Video as the format and save. The status bar shows export progress.

Exporting renders the slides and their transitions into a video. Microsoft says this can take up to several hours, depending on the presentation’s length and complexity, so there is no reliable fixed completion time.

Export a PowerPoint video on Mac

Open and save the presentation in PowerPoint for Mac.

Choose File > Export. Select MP4 or MOV as the file format, then choose a quality setting.

Choose the save location and export the file.
Use Export for this task rather than trying to use Save As to create a video. Microsoft describes MP4 as an international standard with broad support, particularly on hardware devices.

These are the resolution labels and settings listed by Microsoft Support; they are product settings, not independent performance measurements. For Windows, Microsoft’s training guidance recommends MPEG-4 for compatibility with video players, with WMV as an alternative. On Mac, the documented choices are MP4 and MOV. Microsoft recommends MP4 video using H.264 video and AAC audio for media compatibility in PowerPoint, but that guidance does not establish the codec profile produced by every export configuration.

Keep narration, animation, and slide pacing
When you record a presentation, PowerPoint can retain its narration, animations, pointer movements, and timings in the presentation. During Windows export, choose to use recorded timings and narrations if you want the video to follow that recording. If you leave that option off, set a slide duration that suits the content rather than relying on the five-second default. Check the exported video to confirm that spoken content and slide changes line up.
Can you convert a PowerPoint in a browser?
The Microsoft sources cited here document desktop export steps for Windows and Mac, but do not establish a current standalone Create a Video workflow in PowerPoint for the web. If you need a video file, use a desktop version of PowerPoint with the relevant export option rather than assuming the browser app can create one.
When a PowerPoint Show is enough
If the goal is to have slides open directly in presentation mode, save the file as a PowerPoint Show (.ppsx). A .ppsx is still a PowerPoint presentation file, not an MP4 or MOV video, so it is not a substitute when the recipient needs a standalone video.
