Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To convert HTML to PDF with Adobe PDF Services, send static HTML, a ZIP containing an index.html file, or a URL to Adobe’s HTML-to-PDF operation. Authenticate with an API key and Bearer token, then retrieve the completed job’s PDF asset. Keep credentials on a trusted server: Adobe says its SDK credentials must not be sent to untrusted environments or end-user devices.
What the Adobe HTML-to-PDF operation accepts
Adobe PDF Services supports three input approaches for HTML-to-PDF conversion:
- A URL: provide a web address for the HTML Adobe should render.
- A ZIP package: bundle an HTML document with its related assets. Put
index.htmlat the ZIP’s top level; CSS, images, and subdirectories can be referenced from the archive. - A single HTML file: use
text/htmlfor static HTML. This is suited to a document with inline CSS and no separate asset files.
Choose a ZIP when the document depends on local stylesheets or images. A URL avoids packaging files, but its rendered result depends on the page and its assets being available to Adobe’s service when the job runs. The documentation supports static and dynamic HTML, but Adobe’s documentation does not establish a JavaScript-fidelity guarantee or a rendering benchmark; test pages whose final layout depends on scripts.
Set up credentials safely
Create Adobe service-principal credentials and store the client ID and secret in server-side environment variables or another trusted secret store. Do not embed them in browser JavaScript, a mobile app, or code distributed to end users. Adobe’s guidance is explicit: “The SDK only supports server-based use cases where credentials are saved securely in a safe environment. SDK credentials should not be sent to untrusted environments or end user devices.”

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Your server-side application uses those credentials to obtain the Bearer token required by the API. The API request also needs the API key in the x-api-key header. Treat both values as secrets, restrict access to the process that needs them, and avoid printing authorization headers or tokens in logs.
Conversion flow
- Prepare the input. Make a single HTML file, create a ZIP with
index.htmlat its root, or choose a URL. - Upload or identify the input asset. The SDK flow uploads the input asset or specifies a URL, then creates an
HTMLToPDFJob. - Submit the job. The REST operation is
POST https://pdf-services.adobe.io/operation/htmltopdf. Requests usex-api-key,Authorization: Bearer …, andContent-Type: application/json. - Poll for completion. The job returns a URL to poll. Continue until the job is complete, rather than assuming the PDF is ready as soon as the initial request returns.
- Retrieve and save the result. Fetch the result asset and save its returned stream as a PDF. If you enabled
includeRenderedHtml, Adobe documents the output as a ZIP containing the generated PDF and rendered HTML; unzip it before passing the PDF to another system.
Options that affect the PDF
The HTML-to-PDF request can include assetID, json, includeHeaderFooter, pageLayout, and waitTimeToLoad. Adobe’s sample also exposes page width and height. Use the layout-related options to control the output document rather than relying on a browser’s print dialog.
pageLayout, width, and height: set the page dimensions appropriate to the document. Decide page size and orientation before rendering; long reports, invoices, and letter-sized documents may need different layouts.includeHeaderFooter: choose whether the generated PDF includes headers and footers. Check the resulting pages if your own HTML already contains running headings, to avoid unwanted duplication.waitTimeToLoad: allow time for page content and assets to load before rendering. This is especially relevant for URL input or pages that fill in content after the initial response. Adobe’s documentation does not specify a universal wait value, so choose one appropriate to the page and verify the output.includeRenderedHtml: when enabled, plan to handle a ZIP result rather than treating the response as a bare PDF.
Do not assume that a longer wait fixes every missing element: the source URL may require authentication, block automated access, or depend on resources that are unavailable to the renderer. For self-contained documents, an HTML file or ZIP can reduce dependence on remote assets.

Request and result handling
The REST endpoint and required headers are established, but the precise JSON schema for each input mode and the complete token-acquisition exchange are not reproduced here. Use Adobe’s current API documentation and SDK examples for the request body and credential setup rather than guessing field names or copying a token flow from an unrelated Adobe API. Adobe’s documented SDK sequence is to configure service-principal credentials, create the PDF Services client, upload an input asset or specify a URL, submit an HTMLToPDFJob, poll the returned job URL, retrieve the result asset, and save its stream.
For reference, Adobe’s documented operation is the HTML-to-PDF endpoint. Adobe’s walkthrough for creating PDFs is at Create a PDF with PDF Services. Follow the current schema there for the required body fields and asset-upload details. Keep the API call and all credential-bearing steps in your server application.
Limits, usage, and request rate
Adobe measures API use in Document Transactions. The Create operation counts HTML-to-PDF inputs including static or dynamic HTML, inline-CSS HTML, and URL HTML. The available Adobe figures specify:

| Limit or allowance | Value | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Free Document Transactions | 500 per month | Adobe figure for 2026; monthly allowance. |
| JSON file limit | 10 MB | Listed for Document Generation, HTML to PDF, and Import PDFForm. |
| Document file-size limit | 100 MB | Adobe’s stated file limit. |
| Maximum request rate | 25 RPM | Free Tier. |
| Maximum request rate | 100 RPM | Enterprise. |
Adobe says paid credentials provide greater processing quota under a separate written agreement. Do not treat the free monthly transaction allowance as a request-rate limit: they govern different things. A job can be within the monthly transaction budget and still need to respect the applicable requests-per-minute ceiling.
Production considerations
Budget for the whole job lifecycle
Count conversions against the Document Transaction model, and account for retries in your application design. A network timeout after submission can leave the client unsure whether the job was accepted; avoid blindly resubmitting without checking the job state where possible. Track submitted jobs and completed outputs so operational retries do not become uncontrolled duplicate work.
Recommended Free Tools
Handle asynchronous completion
Submission, polling, and result retrieval are separate stages. Your server should preserve the job URL returned by submission, poll it until a terminal status, and then download the result asset. Set a reasonable application-level timeout and report a clear failure if the job does not complete in that window. Adobe’s documentation does not establish a universal latency or error rate, so do not promise users a fixed completion time.

Validate the artifact
After retrieval, confirm that the output is actually a PDF before forwarding it or marking the job successful. If includeRenderedHtml was requested, detect and unpack the ZIP container and locate the PDF inside. For important documents, check page count, orientation, margins, images, and whether the final page is clipped.
Control external dependencies
URL-based rendering can depend on remote CSS, fonts, images, and scripts. Confirm that those resources can be reached without a user’s browser session and that the page does not require an interactive sign-in. A ZIP package is generally a more controlled input when you own the HTML and its local assets. Neither route eliminates the need to inspect the generated PDF.

- Authentication failure: verify that the server is using the correct API key in
x-api-keyand a valid Bearer token inAuthorization. Confirm that credentials are configured for the PDF Services application, and refresh or reacquire an expired token through Adobe’s documented credential flow. - Input asset or HTML is rejected: check the upload and request format against Adobe’s current schema. For a ZIP, confirm that
index.htmlis at the archive root, not nested inside an extra directory. For a single file, use the documentedtext/htmlmedia type. - Images or styles are missing: inspect asset paths and whether referenced resources are included in the ZIP. If using a URL, check that resources are publicly reachable by the renderer and allow enough load time for the page to settle.
- Dynamic content is absent: increase
waitTimeToLoadonly when the page needs additional time, then check whether content is actually available without browser-only interaction. The documentation’s support for dynamic HTML does not establish that every JavaScript-driven site will render identically. - Unexpected ZIP instead of PDF: check whether
includeRenderedHtmlwas enabled. Adobe says that option produces a ZIP containing the PDF and rendered HTML; unpack it before downstream PDF processing. - Requests are throttled: compare traffic with the applicable rate ceiling—25 RPM for Free Tier or 100 RPM for Enterprise—and queue or pace submissions. A higher paid processing quota is separate and, according to Adobe, governed by a written agreement.
- Large input fails: inspect both applicable size constraints: the 10 MB JSON limit stated for HTML to PDF and the 100 MB document file limit. Reduce or restructure the input if it exceeds the relevant limit.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a visual capture of a live webpage rather than a document generated from your own HTML, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF through one GET request. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a substitute for Adobe’s HTML-to-PDF workflow when you need to render a supplied HTML package into a document. Its capture options include viewport or full-page output, PDF settings, and wait conditions; screenshots can be PNG, JPEG, or WebP.
