Chrome can save the page currently open as a PDF. Adobe Acrobat desktop can crawl linked pages, with a selected depth or an entire-site option, and can restrict the crawl to the same path or server. If you need a browsable offline copy rather than a PDF, HTTrack mirrors the site instead.
What “whole website” means
These phrases describe different jobs:
- One page: Save the currently open article, landing page, or document as a PDF.
- Several linked pages: Follow links from a starting URL and combine the captured pages into a PDF collection.
- An offline website: Copy pages and assets to disk so links work without an internet connection. This is a website mirror, not automatically a PDF.
Choose the first option for a quick handout, the second for documentation or archival work, and the third when navigation and offline browsing matter more than a fixed document.
Capture several linked pages with Adobe Acrobat desktop
Acrobat’s desktop web-page workflow is the documented option here that can crawl beyond the open page. Adobe’s instructions, updated September 23, 2025, provide controls for crawl depth, entire-site capture, and scope limits.
- Open Adobe Acrobat desktop.
- Select Create, then Web page.
- Enter the starting page URL, or choose a local HTML file.
- Select Capture multiple levels.
- Choose a specific number of levels, or select Get entire site.
- For a bounded capture, enable Stay on same path to keep subordinate URLs under the starting path, and/or Stay on same server to exclude external domains.
- Review the advanced conversion settings, then select Create.
A “level” is a link distance from the starting page: the first level contains the starting page’s linked pages, the next level follows links found there, and so on. An entire-site request can include substantially more material than expected, especially when navigation links, archives, search results, or calendar pages generate many URLs. Start with a small depth or same-path restriction when you need a controlled document.

Before starting a multi-page capture
- Use a stable, representative starting URL rather than a login page or temporary search result.
- Decide whether links to other hosts should be included. Same-server restriction is useful when a site links to a separate documentation or media domain.
- Expect dynamic applications, authentication-protected pages, and content loaded only after interaction to require separate handling.
- Check the resulting PDF for missing images, repeated navigation, and unexpectedly included pages.
Why Acrobat desktop is different from its browser extension
Adobe describes the desktop workflow as providing more control than its browser extension. The extension converts an open web page; the desktop dialog exposes multi-level capture and scope controls. Use the desktop application when the deliverable must include linked pages rather than only the page visible in a browser tab.
Save the current page as a PDF in Chrome
Chrome’s built-in print workflow is appropriate when the requirement is one page, image, or file currently open. It does not document a site crawler that follows links.
Chrome on Windows or Linux
- Open the page.
- Select File > Print, or press Ctrl+P.
- Choose the PDF destination available in the print dialog.
- Set the paper size, orientation, margins, and other print options as needed.
- Select Save and choose a filename.
Chrome on macOS
- Open the page.
- Select File > Print, or press Command+P.
- Use the system print dialog’s PDF option and choose where to save the file.
Chrome on Android
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Select More > Share > Print.
- Select Save as PDF.
- Choose the destination and save.
Print-to-PDF reflects the page as rendered at capture time. Expand accordions, load more content, and wait for images before printing if those elements must appear. A long page may paginate awkwardly; adjust scale, margins, or orientation in the print dialog.
Make an offline website copy with HTTrack
HTTrack downloads a website to disk, rewrites links for local browsing, and offers both graphical and command-line interfaces. It can resume an interrupted download and update an existing mirror. The result is a navigable offline copy, not a PDF converter.

Use HTTrack when readers need to browse the site structure offline, preserve linked resources, or update a local mirror periodically. If a fixed, printable document is required, use Acrobat’s web capture or print individual pages to PDF after mirroring.
Respect crawl boundaries
HTTrack’s command-line documentation says its default behavior obeys robots.txt. Keep the default behavior and configure scope and filters so you do not download unrelated domains or excessive media. Site owners may also impose terms, rate limits, or access controls; obtain permission where appropriate.
Which method should you choose?

Do not use “entire site” when you only need a documentation section, and do not use a mirror when a portable PDF is the actual requirement.
Common problems and fixes
The PDF contains only the starting page
Cause: A browser print workflow was used, or Acrobat was not set to capture multiple levels. Fix: In Acrobat, choose Capture multiple levels and select a depth or Get entire site.

The capture includes unrelated websites
Cause: Linked external domains were within the crawl scope. Fix: Enable Stay on same server; also use Stay on same path when only a subsection is needed.
The PDF is unexpectedly huge
Cause: Entire-site crawling can follow navigation, archives, generated pages, and media links. Fix: Re-run with a limited level count and same-path restriction, then inspect the starting URL and link structure.
Images or content are missing
Cause: The page loads content dynamically, requires interaction, blocks automated requests, or had not finished loading. Fix: For Chrome, wait for the page and expand required sections before printing. For Acrobat, review conversion settings and test a smaller scope. Authentication-protected content may need a workflow that can access the session.
Pages are hard to read after printing
Cause: Responsive layouts, wide tables, sticky navigation, or unsuitable paper settings. Fix: Change orientation, scale, margins, or paper size; hide nonessential interface elements where the selected tool allows it; then inspect page breaks before sharing.

Practical reliability and cost considerations
- Scope first: A bounded path and level count make results more predictable than an unrestricted entire-site crawl.
- Validate output: Check page count, links, images, headings, and sensitive content before distribution.
- Separate access from conversion: A page that requires a login, consent action, or JavaScript interaction may need preparation before capture.
- Preserve provenance: Record the starting URL and capture date in the document or its accompanying notes when the PDF is archival.
- Choose the right artifact: PDFs are convenient for sharing and printing; mirrors retain site navigation but can be harder to distribute and maintain.
FAQ
Can Chrome convert every page on a website into one PDF?
Chrome’s documented print flow saves the currently open page, image, or file. It does not provide the multi-page site-crawling controls described for Acrobat desktop.
Is “Get entire site” safe for a large public website?
It can collect far more URLs than intended. Restrict the capture by path or server, or select a limited level count before creating the PDF.
Does HTTrack create a searchable PDF?
No. HTTrack creates a local, browsable mirror. Use a PDF capture workflow when a PDF is required.
Can a website’s robots.txt or access controls affect conversion?
Yes. Crawlers may be limited by robots.txt, authentication, rate limits, or application behavior. Do not bypass site restrictions; obtain permission and narrow the scope when necessary.
