This works well for a single page. Use Chrome’s documented Android print path when working on a phone, Adobe Acrobat when you need URL-based capture or several linked levels, and an API when the process must be repeatable or automated.
Choose the right URL-to-PDF method

A web page is responsive HTML and CSS; a PDF is a fixed-page document. Conversion therefore can change line wrapping, pagination, column width, image placement, and interactive behavior. Always inspect the generated file before distributing it.
Save an open page as a PDF in a desktop browser
- Open the exact URL and wait for the page’s important content, images, and tables to load.
- Open the browser’s Print command. The menu name and keyboard shortcut depend on the browser and operating system.
- In the destination or printer list, choose Save as PDF or the equivalent PDF option.
- Review the preview. Check paper size, portrait or landscape orientation, margins, scale, headers, footers, and background graphics when those controls are available.
- Choose a folder, enter a filename, and save.
This is the appropriate default for a single, publicly reachable page. It does not create a complete archive of a site, and browser print dialogs differ across platforms, so exact labels cannot be assumed for every desktop browser.
When the preview is clipped or unreadable
- Switch a wide page or table to landscape orientation.
- Reduce scale slightly if the right side is cut off; increase it if text has become unnecessarily small.
- Adjust margins and paper size before saving.
- Enable background graphics only when the page’s meaning depends on them; backgrounds can increase file size and consume ink when printed.
- For very long pages, confirm that lazy-loaded sections have appeared before opening Print.

- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Share.
- Choose Print.
- In the printer options, select Save as PDF.
- Choose a storage location and tap Print or Save, depending on the device’s wording.
Android manufacturers and Chrome releases can present a different print service screen. If Save as PDF is missing, install or enable a PDF-capable print service, or use the device’s available share/print destination. The resulting file still reflects a fixed print layout, not the live responsive page.
Use Adobe Acrobat for a URL, HTML file, or multiple site levels
Acrobat desktop is useful when you need more than the browser’s one-page print command. In Acrobat, choose Create → Web page, then enter the web page URL or browse to an HTML file. Select the capture scope and choose Create.
Single page versus a larger capture
- Single page: captures the URL you entered.
- Multiple levels: follows links to the depth you specify.
- Entire site: asks Acrobat to capture the site rather than one document.
For multi-level work, Acrobat provides restrictions such as Stay on same path and Stay on same server. These controls limit where the crawler can go, but they do not guarantee that every linked resource or dynamic component will be included. Capture only the scope you need; a site-wide job can produce a large, unwieldy PDF.

Acrobat conversion settings that affect the result
Acrobat’s web-page conversion settings cover image inclusion, retaining page background colors, bookmarks, PDF tags, headers and footers, encoding, and page layout. Page-layout controls include paper size, orientation, margins, and scaling wide content to fit. Use the preview or inspect an early output, then change these settings rather than trying to repair every page manually.

- Use landscape and fit-to-page scaling for wide tables.
- Retain backgrounds when color blocks or diagrams carry meaning.

- Disable headers and footers when they obscure page content; enable them when the source URL or date is important to the record.

Troubleshooting URL-to-PDF conversion
The PDF is blank
The page may still be loading, require JavaScript, or have failed navigation. Reload the page, wait for visible content, and print again. In an automated workflow, add a selector, delay, or network-idle wait and inspect the page verdict.

A cookie banner or popup covers the article
Accept or dismiss it before using the browser Print command. If the page cannot be made clean manually, use a capture workflow that handles consent and removes known overlays before rendering.

Scroll through the page first so deferred content loads, then print. For automation, use full-page capture with lazy-image loading and an explicit wait.
Wide tables are cut off
Choose landscape, reduce margins, or scale to fit. If the text becomes too small, capture the table as its own element or split the content into separate pages.

Links or media do not behave like the webpage
A PDF is not a live browser tab. JavaScript interactions, video playback, forms, and authenticated sessions may not survive conversion. Save the source URL alongside the PDF when readers need the interactive original.
Acrobat captured too much or too little
Change the number of linked levels and apply same-path or same-server restrictions. Confirm whether you intended a single page, a bounded crawl, or an entire site before creating the file again.
