Use Puppeteer’s page.pdf() to save a webpage as a PDF, and ensure Chromium can load and select a Kannada-capable font such as Noto Sans Kannada before printing. Puppeteer waits for fonts by default, but that cannot compensate for a font that is missing, blocked, or not applied. After creating the PDF, inspect it for Kannada glyphs, shaping, clipping, and page breaks.
Generate a PDF with Puppeteer
Puppeteer’s documented PDF method is page.pdf(). It prints using the page’s print CSS by default and waits for fonts to load by default. The example below uses CommonJS and saves an A4 PDF; replace the URL with the page you need to convert.

})();Save the file as, for example, make-pdf.js, install Puppeteer in your project, and run it with Node.js. waitUntil: 'networkidle2' is a navigation condition, not a guarantee that every site-specific widget or delayed content block is ready. If the page fills in content after navigation, wait for a meaningful selector or other site-specific readiness signal before calling page.pdf().

A Noto Kannada font project exists, but its repository does not establish that a particular font package is installed in your machine, container, or deployment. Nor does naming a font in CSS install it. Chromium must be able to load the font file or find the family in its environment, and the page must actually apply that font to the Kannada text.

For a page or template you control, serve a font file and declare its actual location and family name. For example:

}Adjust the family name, file path, and available weights to match the font files you have. If the font is remotely served, check that the browser can fetch it from the PDF-rendering environment. Puppeteer’s waitForFonts option defaults to true and waits for document.fonts.ready; setting it explicitly makes the intention clear. In a background page, the font wait may require bringing the page to the foreground.
Choose print styling, paper size, and margins
Because PDF generation uses the print media type, the result may differ from what you see in a normal browser window. Define print styles if you control the page. If the screen layout is specifically what you need, call await page.emulateMediaType('screen') before page.pdf(); that switches the media styles used for rendering, but the output is still a PDF and should be checked.

The PDF options documented in Puppeteer’s PDFOptions reference let you make layout choices explicit:
- Paper size: Set
format, such as'A4'. The documented default isletter. You can instead specify width and height; ifformatis supplied, it takes priority over those dimensions. - Margins: Set
marginto provide print margins. The documented default is no margins. - CSS page size: Set
preferCSSPageSize: truewhen the page’s@pagerule should take priority. Otherwise, content is scaled to fit the selected paper size. - Backgrounds: Set
printBackground: trueif background graphics or colors matter; the documented default isfalse. - Scale: The documented range is 0.1 to 2. Use it only when adjusting scale is preferable to changing the page layout.
- Font readiness:
waitForFontsdefaults totrueand waits fordocument.fonts.ready.
PDF colors are modified for printing by default. If exact colors matter, Puppeteer’s documentation points to the CSS property -webkit-print-color-adjust; verify the resulting PDF rather than assuming it will match the screen.

Check the saved PDF
A successful call to page.pdf() means a PDF was produced, not that it is visually correct. Open the file and inspect representative pages, especially where Kannada text is dense or layout changes.

- Check that character combinations and word shaping look correct at normal reading size.
- Look for text or content clipped at page edges, columns, or fixed-height containers.
- Review page breaks, repeated headers, and sections that split awkwardly.
- Check backgrounds and colors if they are important to meaning or branding.
Troubleshoot common problems
Kannada letters are missing or replaced
Check whether the font file is installed or reachable from the browser environment, whether the font request succeeds, and whether the CSS selector applies the Kannada-capable family to the affected text. A family name in CSS alone does not ensure that a font is available.
The PDF uses a fallback font despite the CSS declaration
Verify the exact font family name and file URL, and confirm the requested weight and style exist. If the font is loaded over the network, make sure the PDF process can access it. Keep waitForFonts: true and inspect the page after font loading; the option waits for font readiness but cannot load a resource that is inaccessible or repair a CSS rule that does not match.

Content is missing even though navigation completed
The selected page.goto() wait condition may finish before a site’s own delayed content appears. Wait for a selector that identifies the content you need, or use an appropriate delay or readiness condition for that site before printing. Avoid treating network idleness alone as proof that every application has finished rendering.
The PDF looks different from the browser window
That is expected when print CSS differs from screen CSS. Inspect the page’s print rules, or call page.emulateMediaType('screen') before printing if screen styles are the desired basis. Choose the paper size and margins deliberately, and use preferCSSPageSize if the document’s CSS page dimensions should govern.
Backgrounds or colors are absent or changed
Enable printBackground: true to include backgrounds. For color fidelity, consider -webkit-print-color-adjust in the page’s CSS and verify the saved file, since print color handling can differ from screen rendering.

Fonts wait or rendering stalls in a background page
Puppeteer’s PDF font wait can require the page to be in the foreground. Bring the page to the foreground before printing if font readiness is not completing in your setup, then check whether the font request itself succeeds.
