Use Puppeteer to open the news page in Chrome, wait for its content and fonts to become ready, then call page.pdf(). Puppeteer uses print CSS by default. The script below creates a PDF, but Hindi glyphs, article completeness, and pagination still depend on the page’s content, fonts, and rendering; inspect the resulting file rather than assuming the conversion is correct.
Install Puppeteer and create the PDF
This Node.js example uses Puppeteer’s bundled Chrome for Testing, waits for network activity to settle and for the page’s fonts to finish loading, then saves an A4 PDF. Replace the example URL with the Hindi article’s URL.

The puppeteer package downloads a compatible browser during installation; Puppeteer’s installation page gives approximate browser download sizes of 170 MB on macOS, 282 MB on Linux, and 280 MB on Windows, which can vary. If deployment scripts suppress package install scripts, the browser may not be downloaded.

Wait for the article—not just the first page load
page.goto() navigates to the URL; it does not establish that a particular publisher has finished inserting the story. The example waits for domcontentloaded, then tries a bounded network-idle wait. Network idle is only a signal: long-lived requests can prevent it, while client-rendered or lazy-loaded content can still need a page-specific readiness condition.
- If the article has a stable content selector, wait for that selector with
page.waitForSelector('article')or the publisher-specific equivalent before printing. - If a page loads more story text as the reader scrolls, scroll through the relevant content or use a site-specific condition before taking the PDF. Do not assume the initial viewport contains the full story.
- Keep waits bounded. A timeout should lead to inspection or a deliberate fallback, not an indefinite job.
Puppeteer documents navigation and waiting APIs in its Page API. Whether a specific news site blocks automation or serves different content to an automated browser depends on that site.

Check Hindi fonts and Devanagari shaping
Puppeteer’s PDF generation waits for fonts by default, and the browser exposes document.fonts.ready for the point when used fonts and related layout operations have completed. Waiting for it, as the example does, helps avoid printing before a web font finishes loading; it cannot guarantee the runtime has a font with the required Devanagari glyphs or that the publisher’s chosen font loaded successfully.
Open the generated PDF and check representative Hindi text for missing boxes, detached marks, or incorrect shaping. If the page relies on a remote @font-face resource, check the browser’s font state and network errors. Font sources may be remote or locally installed, so the result can differ between development and deployment machines. See MDN’s Document.fonts reference.

Choose print styling, paper size, and colors
page.pdf() renders using print CSS by default. That is usually appropriate for a document, but it can look different from the on-screen article because sites often have separate print styles. To use screen styling instead, call await page.emulateMediaType('screen') before page.pdf().

The PDF options accept paper formats such as A4 and Letter. A4 is 21 × 29.7 cm; Letter is 21.59 × 27.94 cm. The example uses A4. Inspect page breaks, margins, images, and whether the story continues across pages as intended. Browser printing modifies colors for print by default; if exact colors matter, Puppeteer documents the CSS property -webkit-print-color-adjust. See the PDF API and paper format reference.

Validate the finished PDF
- Confirm the headline and complete article text appear, including any content that loads after the initial page render.
- Inspect several Devanagari lines for missing glyphs and correct character shaping.
- Check page breaks, margins, images, and background colors at the selected paper size.
- Compare against the intended print or screen appearance; the default is print media, not screen media.
- Do not infer redistribution permission from the ability to generate a PDF. Rights and site terms are specific to the publisher and are not established by Puppeteer’s documentation.
Troubleshoot common failures
Puppeteer cannot find Chrome
The browser download may have been skipped by package-manager configuration or install-script restrictions. Follow Puppeteer’s installation guide to install its compatible browser with the documented browser-install command, then rerun the script.
The PDF is missing Hindi characters or has broken shaping
Wait for document.fonts.ready, inspect which fonts the page actually loaded, and verify the execution environment has a font with Devanagari coverage. The script cannot force a publisher’s remote font to load if the request fails.

The PDF looks unlike the browser page
Check whether print CSS is responsible. It is the default for page.pdf(); use page.emulateMediaType('screen') before generating the PDF if screen styles are the intended output. Also verify paper size, margins, and print color behavior.
The script waits forever or times out
A page with persistent network requests may never become network-idle. Use a bounded wait and prefer a content-specific selector or condition when the page exposes one. A successful network-idle wait still does not prove all lazy or client-rendered content is present.
