Unsupervised Science is a side quest in CONTROL Resonant that asks you to shut down six FBC testing facilities beneath Manhattan. Three facilities use a Soda Dispenser object-transformation puzzle and three use a timed Power Core balancing puzzle. Clearing the Unknown facility opens the Threshold, and the quest closes when you interact with the corpse at the end of the correct route.
The steps below follow AllThingsHow’s walkthrough, updated September 26, 2026. Remedy Entertainment develops and publishes CONTROL Resonant, which its Steam listing dates to a September 24, 2026 release and describes as an action-adventure RPG starring Dylan Faden in a warped Manhattan. If a later patch changes a location or step, trust what you see in-game over the instructions here.
Start the quest
The quest begins at a Testing Facility, not on the street. Follow these steps:

- Play Dr. Grant’s voicemail from the tape player on that desk.
The voicemail adds Unsupervised Science to your Quest Log with the objective “Shut Down the Experiments.” It explains that the researchers’ dangerous experiments were left running when the Oldest House lockdown began, which is why you are now shutting them down.

Find all six facilities
Map markers for these facilities sit at street level, but the laboratories themselves are underground. Search close to each marker for a sewer grate, drain, construction opening, or other concealed descent. The first facility you finish is the Evacuation Zone one, because it awards the Testing Facility Coordinates document. That document adds the remaining facilities to your map.

Several facilities also hold researchers’ notes, which the guide lists alongside the rewards above.

Puzzle solutions
Soda Dispenser object puzzle
This puzzle appears at Downtown, Evacuation Zone, and West Incursion Zone. The terminal asks for objects to be turned into Soda Dispensers.

- Carry each object across the room’s yellow transformation boundaries until it reaches the Soda Dispenser form.
- Place the finished object in the box or the marked yellow area.
- Use the whiteboard beside the terminal as your reference for the transformation sequence.
- Speed things up by changing direction at boundaries instead of pushing each object through every transformation in order, as the guide suggests.
Power Core balancing puzzle
This puzzle appears at Central, The Park, and the Unknown facility. Starting the shutdown begins a 60-second timer.

- Watch the inactive cores for a red indicator. When one flashes, it is requesting power.
- Move charge from a powered core into the core that is requesting it.
- Keep responding to indicators and keep the cores balanced until the timer runs out and the gate opens.
Central and The Park have four cores. The Unknown facility has five, so expect more indicators to track there.
Final Threshold route
After the Unknown facility is shut down, enter the Threshold beside the accessory room. Its floor is marked with researcher names, and two of the paths are traps. The left path marked Janson turns Dylan into a chair. The straight path marked Puchalski turns him into a telephone booth. Follow these steps in order:

- At the floor marked with researcher names, take the right path.
- Break through the board.
- Follow the branch to the Power Core and collect its charge.
- Return to the fork and take the indicated left branch.
- Put the charge into the inactive Power Core to open the sealed room.
- Collect the crafting materials, return to the fork, continue straight, and interact with the corpse at the end.
Rewards and completion
Once all six facilities are shut down, the quest updates to “Go into the Threshold.” Completing the Threshold route yields Dr. Grant’s Final Report, the Untapped Scrunchie Artifact Recipe, and the Threshold Researcher achievement or trophy. Interacting with the corpse at the end of the route closes the quest. Facility rewards are listed in the table above.
