Context.dev is best suited to teams that want a schema-driven answer from one or more web pages, with crawling and provenance handled by the service. If your workflow is instead raw page scraping, broad crawling, search, browser interaction, or visual capture, another API may fit better. Firecrawl is the clearest documented alternative for scraping and crawling; ScrapingBee is another candidate to evaluate. None of the available documentation establishes a universal accuracy, speed, or success-rate winner, so compare providers against your own target sites and request mix.
What Context.dev provides
Context.dev’s data catalog describes a set of web-data APIs rather than a single scraper. The catalog includes page scraping, web search and answers, mapping URLs on a domain, brand data, style-guide extraction, batch jobs, and change monitoring.
Its extraction API accepts a URL and a JSON Schema, then returns typed JSON. The vendor says it manages crawling, JavaScript rendering, bot protection, and extraction. For a site-spanning extraction request, the product page describes crawling up to 50 pages, a fact-check mode, and URL provenance for each answer. These are vendor descriptions, not independent test results.
How extraction is metered
Context.dev describes success-based billing: one successful extraction costs 10 credits and includes the crawl; failed requests are not billed. The same page says a work-email signup receives 500 free credits and a free-email signup 250. Allocations, prices, and other terms can change, so verify the current pricing page before budgeting.

Firecrawl: the documented scraping and crawling alternative
Firecrawl’s billing documentation describes a credit model in which a basic scrape or crawl consumes one credit per page. Search consumes two credits per ten results, and selected output or page-processing options add costs. Its pricing page lists USD rates effective September 4, 2026; those rates may change.
Estimate the request, not the plan name
- Count pages actually fetched, including pages discovered during a crawl.
- Add search charges if the workflow starts with web search.
- Identify output and processing options that carry additional credits.
- Model retries, scheduled recrawls, and peak concurrency separately from the base request.
- Check the current billing documentation before committing to a plan.
Firecrawl is a practical candidate when you need a conventional scrape or crawl API alongside search and browser interaction. The credit unit makes a page-and-option estimate more useful than comparing entry-plan prices alone.

ScrapingBee: a candidate, not a drop-in replacement
ScrapingBee’s own Firecrawl comparison says the services overlap in JavaScript rendering, geotargeting, structured extraction, Markdown, screenshots, CLI access, and MCP support. The same page explicitly says ScrapingBee is not a drop-in replacement for Firecrawl. Treat those statements as ScrapingBee’s product positioning, not independent proof that the two services behave identically or that either matches Context.dev.
What to verify before choosing it
- Whether the endpoint you need supports your target’s JavaScript and interaction sequence.
- How structured extraction is configured and whether provenance is returned.
- How pages, requests, browser use, proxies, and add-on options are charged.
- Concurrency, rate limits, SDK/REST support, and retry behavior for your workload.
A workload-first comparison checklist
1. Define the workflow
Write down whether you need a single-page scrape, a site-wide crawl, URL discovery, web search, schema extraction, browser interaction, visual capture, or change monitoring. A provider that excels at one may not expose the controls required by another.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
2. Define the output contract
Specify Markdown, HTML, screenshots, PDF, or schema-constrained JSON. For JSON, decide whether unanswered fields must remain empty, whether validation is required, and whether every value needs a source URL.
3. Test page complexity
Use representative pages that require JavaScript, consent handling, authentication, geolocation, or interaction. Vendor descriptions do not establish equal success rates, so a small trial against your real targets is more informative than a feature checklist.

4. Calculate total usage
Include pages crawled, search results, browser time, extraction options, scheduled runs, failed-request policy, and retries. Record the date and currency of every price because plans and allowances change.
5. Compare operational work
Check REST and SDK support, concurrency and rate limits, crawl controls, proxy and browser management, parsing and validation responsibilities, webhook or job support, and observability. The cheapest credit may still cost more engineering time if your team must build missing controls.

Where ScreenshotNeo fits
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a general replacement for Context.dev’s structured web-data extraction. Try it first when the deliverable is a clean image or PDF, or when an AI agent needs visual capture. It accepts one GET request and supports PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output. Before capture it accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.
Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The API also supports full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets plus custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/landscape/page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector or network-idle waits, request/resource blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification.

How to run a defensible trial
- Select 10–20 URLs that represent your real mix, including dynamic and failure-prone pages.
- Run the same workflow through each candidate, recording output format, provenance, latency observed by your system, errors, and billed units.
- For extraction, compare field completeness and whether unknown values stay empty instead of being guessed.
- For crawls, compare discovered-page counts, duplicate handling, depth controls, and retry behavior.
- Recalculate monthly cost using your expected page, search, option, and recrawl volumes.
- Choose the service whose documented controls and measured behavior meet your requirements; do not infer a market-wide winner from a short trial.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is a data extraction API different from a web scraping API?
A scraping API generally returns page material such as HTML or Markdown, while an extraction API applies a schema or other transformation and returns structured fields. Context.dev describes its extraction API as accepting a URL and JSON Schema and returning typed JSON with URL provenance.
How do I stop the model from making things up?
Require schema validation, preserve unanswered fields as empty, and retain source URLs for each value. Test those rules on representative pages and inspect failed or ambiguous fields instead of treating every returned value as verified.
