Neither Contabo nor Leaseweb is the better host on the strength of its published information alone. Both sell virtual servers and dedicated servers, and both publish specifications, pricing and service terms. Those documents do not show which company is faster, cheaper for your exact setup or more reliable, and the vendor pages checked in October 2026 include no independent benchmark or outside study. The right choice depends on the resources your workload needs, where your users are, how long you are willing to commit, how much server administration you can handle, and how much support you want included.

This comparison covers VPS, virtual dedicated server (VDS) and dedicated (bare-metal) products. It does not compare shared WordPress or other managed shared-hosting plans, which are sold on different terms. Prices and configurations change by region and at checkout, so confirm every figure before you buy.

Compare the same class of server first

“Web hosting” covers several products that behave quite differently. Compare only products from the same class:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Shared-resource VPS: a virtual machine on a physical host whose CPU and other resources are shared with other customers. Contabo describes its VPS as a cost-efficient option, and Leaseweb describes its VPS as virtual servers.
  • VDS with dedicated CPU and RAM: a virtual server whose processor and memory allocation is reserved for you. Contabo offers this as its VDS line. Leaseweb’s pages describe VPS and dedicated products rather than a separately named VDS line, so confirm how CPU is allocated on any VPS you consider.
  • Dedicated (single-tenant bare metal): the whole physical machine is yours. Both vendors offer this class.

Do not assume identical CPU-contention rules across providers, even when two plans list the same number of vCPUs. The same-class comparison is the starting point for every other decision in this article.

What each vendor publishes

Contabo

Contabo’s US pricing page lists Core Cloud VPS plans. Two examples are VPS 4, with 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 100 GB SSD, and VPS 6, with 6 vCPU, 12 GB RAM and 200 GB SSD. The page also lists VDS and dedicated configurations. Displayed prices are labelled as including VAT, and the monthly offer shown at the time of checking was tied to a 24-month term. Prices and taxes can differ by locale and offer, so a figure from the US page does not carry over to another country or to a no-commitment order.

The dedicated-server page describes single-tenant bare-metal servers with AMD Ryzen and EPYC configurations. Promotional prices are tied to stated subscription periods. The page says the service operates in 12 locations across nine global regions and offers round-the-clock English-language support. That is Contabo’s description of its own service, not an independently assessed support experience.

Leaseweb’s dedicated-server page describes single-tenant physical servers with configurable RAM, disks and bandwidth, on month-to-month contracts. It also cites the company network: 25 Internet Exchange peering points, 36 points of presence, 5.5 Tbps of available capacity and 99.999% core uptime. These are Leaseweb’s own published figures, not third-party measurements. Treat the uptime number as a marketing claim and read the SLA page for the contractual terms.

Price: compare the whole bill

Headline prices on both sites depend on configuration, term, region and tax. Contabo’s displayed monthly rates are term-dependent effective rates, so a figure shown with a 24-month term is not a month-to-month price. Leaseweb’s dedicated servers are sold month to month, but upgraded SLA tiers carry separately published fees. A bare server price therefore understates the cost of stronger support.

Traffic needs its own check. Contabo’s pricing page calls traffic unlimited but qualifies it: incoming traffic is unmetered, while exceptionally high or disruptive use may be throttled at the provider’s discretion to preserve fair network performance. A bandwidth-heavy site, a media service or a game server should ask for that policy in writing before committing. Leaseweb’s 10 Gbps uplink describes port speed, which is not the same as a monthly transfer allowance. Confirm the bandwidth terms for the configuration you choose.

Uptime and support: read the contract

Contabo’s availability obligation

Contabo’s terms and conditions state: “The Provider will ensure that the physical connectivity of the object storage infrastructure, webspace packages, dedicated servers, virtual dedicated server and VPS is available at an annual average rate of 99.9%.” The same terms say bandwidth is not guaranteed for an individual server unless expressly agreed otherwise. Read this as an annual average obligation for physical connectivity to the listed services. It is not a guarantee that your application stays online, and it is separate from the uptime language in Contabo’s marketing.

Leaseweb’s support tiers

Leaseweb includes a Basic SLA with its VPS and dedicated servers, as described on the SLA page. Basic response is listed at 12 hours and hardware replacement at 24 hours. Paid tiers list response targets from four hours down to 30 minutes, and hardware replacement targets from four hours down to two hours. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum monthly prices are published for dedicated servers and VPS. Confirm current prices, region and what each tier covers before quoting them. These are target times, not promises that an incident will be fully resolved within that window.

Questions to put to either provider

  • Is the response time a first reply or a fix, and what counts as a hardware failure?
  • Does hardware replacement include restoring data, or only the machine?
  • Who takes backups and snapshots, how many are kept, and who performs a restore?
  • Which support tier applies to my product and region, and what does it cost monthly?

Network and location

Leaseweb’s network claims are the most specific published figures on either site, but they describe the provider’s own infrastructure. They do not measure the path between your users and your server, and no independent comparison supports them. Leaseweb also lists a monitoring add-on available only in specified regions, so confirm availability for your location.

Contabo’s documentation notes possible additional fees for locations outside the EU. Neither vendor’s pages give comparative latency for any audience. Choose the facility closest to the people or systems that will use the server, then test from there rather than relying on a vendor’s network description. Leaseweb’s cloud overview lists its regions and network features.

Which fits which situation

Contabo is worth a closer look when

  • a listed configuration such as VPS 4 or VPS 6 covers your CPU, RAM and storage needs in the region you need, and its total cost after tax, setup and renewal is lower than the alternative;
  • you are comfortable administering the server yourself, using API, CLI or KVM-over-IP access;
  • your traffic is ordinary rather than exceptionally high or disruptive.

Leaseweb is worth a closer look when

  • a configuration of up to 24 vCPU, 120 GiB RAM and 600 GB NVMe matches your workload, and the region is one you need;
  • the included Basic SLA is enough to start, and you may want a paid tier later;
  • you want a month-to-month dedicated contract, or portal and API control with snapshots.

Checklist before you choose

  1. Match the class. Pick the same vCPU, RAM, storage type (SSD or NVMe) and tenancy model on both sites.
  2. Build both orders in the same region on the same day. Record the total for the first term and for renewal, including tax, setup fees, backups, IP addresses and any traffic charges.
  3. Confirm the contract term. Note the minimum term and cancellation rules, especially for pre-paid and post-paid billing.
  4. Compare support scope. Check whether support is included or paid, the response and replacement targets, and whether a target measures first response or full resolution.
  5. Assign backup responsibility. Confirm who takes snapshots or backups, how far back they go, and who performs a restore.
  6. Measure from your users’ location. From a machine near your audience, run mtr --report --report-cycles 100 203.0.113.10 against each candidate server, replacing the example address with the server’s IP, and ping -c 50 203.0.113.10 for a simple round-trip check.
  7. Run your own workload. Deploy your actual application, or a close copy, on each trial server and measure response times under realistic load over several days. Vendor specifications cannot show this.
  8. Plan migration help. If you need someone to move the site, check whether either provider offers that service and what it costs. The vendor pages checked for this comparison do not describe one.

Contabo’s pricing, Leaseweb’s SLA tiers and each vendor’s regional catalog are the three sources to recheck on the day you order, because all three change.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
