To hook up wireless earbuds, put them in Bluetooth pairing mode, open Bluetooth settings on your phone or computer, and select the earbuds when they appear. Pairing mode is model-specific, so use the earbuds’ manual for the exact button, touch gesture, or case action.
Before you pair
- Charge the earbuds and their case, if applicable.
- Keep the earbuds close to the device you want to connect. Apple advises keeping an iPhone within about 33 feet (10 meters) of a Bluetooth accessory while pairing: Apple’s iPhone Bluetooth instructions.
- Use the manufacturer’s instructions to make the earbuds discoverable. Some models enter pairing mode when removed from the case; others require a button or touch control.
- If the earbuds are connected to another nearby phone or computer, disconnect them there or follow the model’s instructions for adding another device.
Pair earbuds with an iPhone
- Open Settings and tap Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Put the earbuds in pairing or discovery mode.
- Tap the earbuds’ name when it appears, then follow any passcode prompt.
- Play audio and check that it comes through the earbuds.
If the earbuds do not appear, check their manual for the correct way to make them discoverable.
Pair earbuds with an Android phone
- Swipe down from the top of the screen and touch and hold Bluetooth, or open Bluetooth in Settings.
- Choose Pair new device. Depending on the phone, the option may instead appear as Available devices or a refresh control.
- Put the earbuds in pairing mode.
- Select the earbuds and follow the on-screen prompts.
If both the phone and earbuds support Google Fast Pair, opening the case may show a connection prompt; tap it to connect. Fast Pair is not available for every device. Menu names and steps can vary with the Android version and phone manufacturer. Google says a device paired for the first time can connect automatically afterward, though this is not guaranteed for every earbud or situation: Google’s Android Bluetooth pairing guide.

Windows 11 and Windows 10 use different settings paths. Microsoft says most Windows devices have Bluetooth built in; a USB Bluetooth adapter can add it to a PC that does not. Microsoft’s Windows pairing guide covers both versions. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025.

Windows 11
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices, or open Bluetooth from Quick Settings, and turn Bluetooth on.
- Put the earbuds in pairing mode.
- Open the Bluetooth device controls, choose the earbuds from the new devices list, and follow any prompts.
- If Windows shows a completion prompt, select Done.
Windows 10
- Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices and turn Bluetooth on.
- Put the earbuds in pairing mode.
- Select Add Bluetooth or other device, choose Bluetooth, and select the earbuds.
- Follow the prompts to finish pairing.
Swift Pair may simplify setup when both the PC and earbuds support it. Once paired, Windows may reconnect to the earbuds when Bluetooth is on and they are in range.
Pair earbuds with a Mac
For AirPods set up with an iPhone, they may connect automatically to a Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. Otherwise, use Bluetooth settings to connect them. Other earbuds also pair through Mac Bluetooth settings, but their pairing-mode gesture depends on the model.

- Open System Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
- Put the earbuds in pairing mode using the model’s instructions.
- Select the earbuds and choose Connect if prompted.
- If sound still comes from the Mac speakers, choose the earbuds in the Mac’s sound output controls.
AirPods can also work as a Bluetooth headset with non-Apple devices, but Siri is unavailable on those devices. See Apple’s AirPods setup instructions and Apple’s instructions for changing the Mac sound output.
Reconnect earbuds you have already paired
After initial pairing, a saved connection may reconnect automatically when Bluetooth is on and the earbuds are available. If it does not, open the device’s Bluetooth settings or saved-device list and select the earbuds. On a computer, also confirm that the earbuds are selected as the active audio output.

Fix common pairing problems
The earbuds do not appear in the device list
- Make sure they are charged, turned on, nearby, and actually in pairing mode.
- Check the manual for the model-specific pairing gesture; being powered on does not always make earbuds discoverable.
- Disconnect them from another nearby device if they are already connected there.
- On Windows, Microsoft lists pairing mode, range, low battery, and configuration among possible causes when a device will not pair. See Microsoft’s Windows Bluetooth troubleshooting guide.
The earbuds appear but will not connect
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on, restart the earbuds, and try again.
- On Windows, remove the earbuds from Bluetooth settings and add them again.
- If the problem continues on Windows, driver, service, update, or configuration issues may need attention; Microsoft lists these among potential causes in its Bluetooth troubleshooting steps.
The device says connected, but there is no sound
Choose the earbuds as the audio output on the computer or check the phone’s audio output selection. On a Mac, select the earbuds in the sound output controls.
The earbuds connect to the wrong device
Disconnect them from the other device, or select them from the intended phone or computer’s saved Bluetooth list. Whether earbuds can stay connected to multiple devices at once depends on the model.

The PC has no Bluetooth control
Check whether the PC has Bluetooth. Microsoft says a USB Bluetooth adapter can add Bluetooth to a Windows device that lacks it; an adapter is not routinely needed on a PC with built-in Bluetooth.
