To connect a phone, computer, tablet, or console to an already configured Verizon Fios router, open the device’s Wi-Fi settings, select the router’s network name (SSID), and enter its current Wi-Fi password. The default network name and password are printed on the router’s rear label; if either was changed, use the updated details. Verizon says you can also find the credentials in My Verizon.

Join an existing Verizon Fios Wi-Fi network

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi in your device’s wireless or network settings.
  2. Choose the network name printed on the back of the router. If you renamed the network, select its current name instead.
  3. Enter the current Wi-Fi password, also called the WPA key. The router label shows the default password, not a replacement you may have set later.
  4. Tap or select Join, Connect, or the equivalent option on your device.

Verizon’s device instructions follow this same process across iOS, Android, Mac, PC, and game consoles, though the exact menu labels vary. See Verizon’s Connect Devices to Wi-Fi guide.

Where to enter the password

  • iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > Wi-Fi, choose the network, enter the password, then tap Join.
  • Android: Open Settings > Wi-Fi (or Network & internet > Internet on some versions), choose the network, enter the password, and connect.
  • Mac or PC: Open the Wi-Fi menu, choose the network, and enter the password when prompted.
  • Game console: Open its Network or Connection settings, choose Wi-Fi, select the network, and enter the password.

Verizon’s Verizon Router FAQs recommend using a strong, unique Wi-Fi password.

If you are setting up a new Verizon Router

Installing or activating a new router is different from joining a Wi-Fi network that is already working. Verizon’s setup instructions for the documented Verizon Router call for an Ethernet connection from the router’s WAN port to the Internet Gateway, then power to the router. Check your router model and its instructions before following model-specific cabling or light guidance.

  1. Connect the router’s WAN port to the Internet Gateway with Ethernet, then connect the router to power.
  2. Wait for the router’s light to become solid white. Verizon says startup can take up to five minutes; the light may fluctuate red and white during startup, and you should not unplug the router during this process.
  3. Connect a device using the Wi-Fi name and password printed on the back of the Gateway, or scan its QR code, then follow the activation prompts.

Verizon lists mynetworksettings.com and https://192.168.1.1 as router settings addresses in its setup article, last updated October 6, 2026. That article covers the documented Verizon Router and Gateway setup; instructions can differ for other equipment.

Choose Wi-Fi, WPS, or Ethernet

Method What you need When it makes sense
Wi-Fi name and password The network name and its current password The standard option for phones, tablets, laptops, and wireless devices.
WPS A compatible device and a router configuration that permits WPS Can connect without typing the password, but it is unavailable if WPA3 is enabled, SSID broadcast is disabled, or MAC address authentication is enabled with an empty allowlist.
Ethernet An Ethernet cable and an Ethernet port on the router and device A direct wired alternative. Verizon says it provides the fastest connection for a game console; it is not required for Wi-Fi.

Verizon documents WPS and its restrictions in the router FAQ. Its device connection guide covers Ethernet connections. Check whether you already have a suitable cable before obtaining one.

Fix common connection problems

The password is rejected

  • Re-enter it carefully, checking capitalization and similar-looking characters. Use the device’s show-password option if available.
  • If the router label’s default password does not work, the owner may have changed it. Check My Verizon or the router settings for the current credential.
  • If the device has an old saved entry for the network, forget or remove that Wi-Fi network, then connect again with the current password.

Check whether the issue is the device or the network

Try connecting another device to the same Wi-Fi network. If it connects, investigate the affected device; if it also fails, the router or home network is more likely to be the problem. You can also try the affected device on another Wi-Fi network: trouble across multiple networks points toward the device, while trouble on just one points toward that network or access point. Verizon outlines this isolation approach in its Wi-Fi connection troubleshooting guide.

Several devices cannot connect

If multiple devices fail on your home network, Verizon advises unplugging the router and modem for about 60 seconds, then reconnecting them and allowing the equipment time to come back online. Also check whether the router’s Wi-Fi radio is enabled; devices cannot join its wireless network if Wi-Fi is turned off.

Older devices cannot join after a Wi-Fi security change

Verizon’s router FAQ notes that enabling Wi-Fi 6E changes the primary network to WPA3, which can disconnect devices that support only WPA2. For the router covered by that FAQ, Verizon identifies an IoT network using WPA2 as a possible connection path for those devices. Check your router’s model-specific guidance before changing wireless settings.

Resetting a device’s network settings is a later troubleshooting option, not the first one; it refreshes network settings. Avoid factory-resetting the router as an initial fix: Verizon says a factory reset restores defaults and deletes customized network settings. See the Verizon Router FAQs for reset and model-specific details.
