To charge a Samsung Chromebook, plug the charging cable into the charging port on the side of the device, connect the AC adapter to a working wall outlet, and leave it connected until the battery is full. A red power LED means it is charging and a green LED means it is fully charged. Samsung’s US support guidance covers the routine, the indicator lights, and the first troubleshooting steps. Charging ports and adapters differ between Samsung Chromebook models, so confirm your exact model before buying any replacement power part.
How to charge your Samsung Chromebook
Samsung’s routine for its Chromebooks is short. Follow these steps in order:
- Connect the power cable to the charging port on the side of the Chromebook.
- Connect the AC adapter to a wall outlet.
- Disconnect the cable from the Chromebook once the battery is fully charged.
Samsung states that the Chromebook can be used while it charges, but doing so may increase the time needed to reach full charge. If you plan a long session on battery power, plug in before you start rather than waiting for the battery to run low.
Which USB-C port to use
Samsung’s charging guide says that any USB-C port can be used when the Chromebook has a USB-C charger. This applies only to the USB-C charging setup described in that guide. Do not assume the same rule holds for older Samsung Chromebooks that use a different charging port, because Samsung notes that charger and port details vary by model. If your device uses a non-USB-C adapter, use the adapter and cable that came with it or a Samsung-approved replacement.

Reading the charging lights and battery status
The power LED is the fastest way to check what the Chromebook is doing. Samsung’s guide defines the following colors:
| Indicator | What Samsung says it means |
|---|---|
| Red, steady | Charging |
| Green | Fully charged |
| Blue | The Chromebook is powered on |
| Blinking red | No battery is detected, or the battery is pre-charging |
The on-screen status area in ChromeOS also shows the current battery level and an estimated time until the battery is full. Use it when the LED is hard to see in a bright room or when you want a time estimate rather than just a color.

Step 1: Reseat the cable and adapter
- Confirm the AC adapter is plugged into a working wall outlet. Try a different outlet if you are unsure.
- Confirm the power cable is fully inserted into the Chromebook’s charging port.
- Disconnect the cable from the Chromebook and the adapter from the outlet, then reconnect both.
- Allow the device to charge for 30 minutes before judging the result.
Step 2: Read the LED
If the red LED lights, the charger is delivering power and the battery is receiving it, even if the screen stays dark for a while. A blinking red LED points to a battery problem, which Samsung’s indicator guide associates with either a missing battery or pre-charging. Note the LED behavior before you contact support, because it helps the support agent narrow the cause.
Step 3: Test with another adapter or device
If the Chromebook still does not charge or power on, Samsung advises trying another AC adapter where appropriate. You can also connect another compatible device to the same adapter. If that device charges normally, the adapter is probably working and the fault is more likely in the Chromebook, its cable, or its port. If the other device does not charge either, the adapter is the more likely problem.
Step 4: Get a replacement from an authorized source
If testing points to the adapter or cable, Samsung directs customers to its authorized parts distributor for replacement adapters. Choose a replacement only after you have confirmed your model, as described in the buying section below. Samsung’s full troubleshooting directions should be followed before any reset or recovery procedure, because some steps can erase data. This guide does not walk through those steps.

Buying a replacement charger safely
A replacement AC adapter or a USB-C charger is the only power accessory this guide supports. Before you buy one, check the following:
- The exact Samsung Chromebook model number, since adapters and ports vary by model.
- The connector type on the Chromebook end, and whether your model uses a USB-C charger.
- The required power specification for your model, taken from the labeling on your existing adapter or from Samsung’s model documentation.
- Whether the seller is Samsung’s authorized parts distributor or another source Samsung recognizes.
Samsung’s guidance does not name one universal charger, wattage, or part number that works across its Chromebook range. Choose a replacement by matching your model, not by picking a generic USB-C charger that happens to fit.

- Close apps and programs you are not using.
- Lower display brightness where possible.
- Keep ChromeOS updated.
- Disconnect or unpair devices you are not using.
- Turn on Night mode.
- Lock the device or close the lid when you step away, so it can sleep.
Samsung’s support page does not publish a measured battery-life improvement from these habits, so treat them as good practice rather than a guaranteed number of extra hours.
