Yes. Marcus Mariota will start for Washington against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4 after the Commanders ruled Jayden Daniels out with an elbow injury. The team has not set a return date for Daniels.
Why is Mariota starting?
Daniels dislocated his elbow in Washington’s Week 2 loss to Dallas. He was limited in practice during the week before the Colts game, and the Commanders listed him as out on their October 2 game-status report. Washington has not announced a firm return date. The team said it would continue evaluating Daniels, and Quinn said, “We’ll assess where we are next week when he gets a full week of practice all the way through.” That describes a planned reassessment, not a promise that Daniels will play in Week 5. How did Mariota perform in relief against Dallas?
After Daniels left the Week 2 game, Mariota entered in the second half and completed 11 of 16 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown to Stefon Diggs, according to the Commanders. Washington Commanders, September 23
In an October 2 snapshot covering two appearances—one start and one relief appearance—NFL.com reported that Mariota had at least four passing touchdowns and no interceptions.
