Check that your device is supported and that you have the official installer, then try the reversible checks below. These are general troubleshooting steps—not fixes documented specifically by Perplexity for Comet.
Identify where Comet is getting stuck
“Comet won’t open” can describe several different problems. Note which one matches what you see; an installer that will not start and a browser that crashes after launch need different investigation.
- The installer will not start: You cannot begin installing Comet.
- Installation fails: The installer starts but does not complete, or displays an error.
- The installed browser will not launch: Clicking Comet produces no visible window or response.
- Comet opens and immediately closes: The window appears briefly, then disappears.
- Comet opens but pages will not load: The app launches, so this is a page-loading issue rather than a failure to open.
Write down the exact error text, if any, and whether the problem occurs before or after installation.
Check device support and the installer source
Comet availability can vary by platform and may change. Perplexity’s Comet Quick Start Guide names macOS on M1/M2 processors and Windows 10/11. The Comet product page lists Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. Since those pages differ in scope and specificity, check the current official download page for your particular device before troubleshooting further.

For a new installation or a possibly damaged installer, get a fresh copy from comet.perplexity.ai. Avoid third-party installers.
Try low-risk general troubleshooting
The following are general software checks, not Comet-specific procedures published in the cited Perplexity materials. Try them in order and note what changes.

- Restart your device. After it starts again, try opening Comet once. If it still fails, note whether anything appears on screen or an error is shown.
- Replace an interrupted or unofficial installer. Download a fresh installer from the official Comet site. If the installer was interrupted or came from another source, use the official copy instead.
- Retry an incomplete installation. Close the installer, start again with the fresh official copy, and record any error message. Do not guess at a cause based on the message alone.
- Record recent changes. If Comet worked before it stopped opening, note recent operating-system updates, security-software changes, or an abrupt shutdown. These are useful context for support, not proof of what caused the failure.
Before uninstalling Comet or changing app data, consider whether you need local browser profile information and ask official support for guidance. Do not delete profile folders, disable security protections, bypass operating-system security prompts, or run untrusted cleanup utilities without authoritative, platform-specific instructions.
Separate launch failures from page-loading problems
If no Comet window opens—or the window immediately closes—focus on the installer, installation, device support, and launch behavior. An internet connection issue does not by itself explain why the app cannot launch.

If Comet opens but cannot load pages, describe that separately when seeking help. Include whether the problem affects all pages or only particular ones, and any message shown. Do not report a page-loading symptom as an app launch failure.

The Comet Help Center says it covers installing, using, and troubleshooting Comet, and lists a Troubleshooting & Support collection. Use that hub to find the available guidance. The hub does not establish a specific launch-recovery procedure or contact response time.

- Your operating system and version, plus your device type or model.
- Your Comet version, if visible.
- The exact error text, or what happens when you try to open it.
- Whether the installer fails or an already-installed browser fails to launch.
- When the problem began and any recent system or security-software changes.
- The troubleshooting steps you have already tried and what happened after each one.
