The one coffee machine this evidence clearly supports avoiding is the recalled Kidisle KC101B. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says to stop using it because clogging can release hot liquid or steam unexpectedly. The available evidence does not establish a reliable list of other brands or models to avoid; use model-level recall and reliability information instead.
The Kidisle KC101B is the confirmed coffee machine to avoid
On June 11, 2026, the CPSC announced a recall of Kidisle-branded hot and iced coffee machines with model number KC101B. Check the sticker on the underside of the machine. If it says KC101B, stop using the machine and contact Kidisle for a full refund. The CPSC notice is recall number 26-557: CPSC recall notice.
The machines were sold online at Amazon, Walmart, and eBay from June 2024 through April 2026 for about $49. The CPSC says, “The recalled coffeemakers can become clogged, causing hot liquid or steam to build up and be released unexpectedly during use, posing a risk of serious injury from burn hazard.”

The agency reported at least 107 reports of unexpected hot-liquid or steam release and at least 27 reported injuries. The injuries included first- and second-degree burns requiring medical treatment. Those figures refer to reports involving this model, not the risk across coffee makers generally.

Why there is no broader avoid list
A brand’s name, a few negative owner reviews, a low price, or a large feature list is not enough to establish that its machines are unreliable or unsafe. The evidence available here does not support naming additional brands or models to avoid.
Consumer Reports describes using lab tests and member surveys to evaluate coffee makers, but its specific current rankings were not available for verification. Its methods and survey scope can help readers understand what useful reliability evidence looks like; they do not establish that any unlisted model is a poor buy.

How to judge another coffee machine before buying
Check the exact model for recalls
Search the maker’s full model number in current recall notices, rather than relying on the brand name alone. Product families can include models with different histories, and a recalled machine should not be treated as a normal buying option.

Consumer Reports says its reliability estimates represent the likelihood that a newly purchased machine will have a problem within four years, based on member survey data. Its 2026 reliability article reports a survey of 81,568 coffee makers purchased between 2017 and 2025: 27,742 drip, 47,003 single-serve pod, and 6,823 dual machines. The surveys covered 45 brands. These figures describe the scope of the survey, not a reliability score for every model.

Consumer Reports also reports owner satisfaction separately from predicted reliability. A satisfaction measure and a likelihood-of-problem estimate answer different questions, so look at both when model-level results are available. See its coffee maker ratings and buying guide.
Match the machine type to your routine
Choose based on the coffee you drink, how much you make at a time, and which features you will actually use. Drip, single-serve pod, cold-brew, and dual machines serve different needs. For drip machines, Consumer Reports says its testing considers brew temperature and contact time. Across types, it also considers usability and tasks such as filling the reservoir, fitting the filter, estimating how much coffee remains, cleaning, and using the controls.

Compare evidence, not reputation or feature count
When comparing two or more specific models, check each against the same criteria:
- Current recall status for the exact model.
- Predicted reliability and owner satisfaction, where model-level results are available.
- Brew performance for the machine type and coffee style you want.
- Ease of cleaning, filling, and routine operation.
- Fit for your household’s batch size and consumption.
If reliable model-level information is unavailable, treat that as an evidence gap—not proof that the machine is bad. Price and brand reputation alone do not establish unreliability.
