If your hosting provider is replacing CodeGuard with Xcitium Backup, download any CodeGuard archives you need before the old service expires. Do not assume those historical files, your backup settings, or every website will move automatically. The exact transition depends on your provider, account type, and renewal notice.

What should I do before my CodeGuard service expires?

  1. Check your actual renewal date. Use the renewal area of your provider’s account: HostGator points customers to the Renewal Center, while Bluehost points them to the renewal section of the account manager. Follow the notice for your own account rather than another provider’s dates. HostGator’s transition FAQ and Bluehost’s FAQ describe their respective processes.
  2. Identify what you need to keep. Check the websites and databases in CodeGuard and decide which historical backup dates matter.
  3. Download important archives before expiry. HostGator says expired archives are permanently removed; Bluehost warns that they may no longer be accessible. Downloading is the safe option even if your provider’s account notice gives different timing or language.
  4. Save and verify the files. Store the downloaded archives somewhere you control and confirm they are present and usable. A local drive or optional portable external SSD can keep them separate from the hosting account; the provider guides do not specify a required capacity or model.

What happens to existing CodeGuard backups?

Do not count on historical CodeGuard files appearing in Xcitium. Bluehost explicitly says existing CodeGuard backup files will not be automatically moved to Xcitium Backup. The cited HostGator and Network Solutions instructions likewise do not establish a general archive-import process. Treat your downloaded archives as a separate historical copy unless your provider confirms otherwise for your account. Bluehost’s FAQ

Will my settings and websites transfer automatically?

There is no universal setup rule. HostGator says the primary website is set up automatically at the next renewal, but additional websites need setup. Bluehost distinguishes WordPress hosting, which it said would be set up automatically, from standalone backup orders, which require customer configuration. Both providers say not to expect existing settings or custom configurations to be copied automatically. HostGator FAQ · Bluehost FAQ

Provider or account situation What the cited guidance says What to check
HostGator Transition at the next renewal; the primary website is set up automatically, while additional websites require setup. Confirm every site, not just the primary one, and recreate settings as needed.
Bluehost WordPress hosting The FAQ described automatic setup for WordPress hosting. Confirm the new backup is active in your account and check site coverage.
Bluehost standalone backup order The FAQ said customers must configure standalone backup accounts. It scheduled standalone CodeGuard deactivation for July 28, 2026. That date has passed. Check your current account status and order details rather than relying on the old schedule.
Network Solutions accounts covered by its instructions Xcitium documentation covers CodeGuard and Xcitium customers renewed on or after May 15, 2026; it describes the service as available seven days before renewal. Use the current portal guidance for your account; eligibility and interface may differ at other providers.

Bluehost’s FAQ also described a new order on July 14, 2026. Those dates are provider-specific and have passed; they are not general CodeGuard cutoff dates. Check your own provider’s current notice. Bluehost’s FAQ

What should I check after Xcitium is provisioned?

  1. Sign in to the Xcitium dashboard or your hosting provider’s account manager.
  2. Check that each expected website and database is listed.
  3. Recreate missing schedules, preferences, custom configurations, and additional-site setup.
  4. Open backup history and confirm that a completed backup exists for each site and database you expect to protect. HostGator specifically recommends confirming backups are running after renewal.
  5. Keep your downloaded CodeGuard archives separate from Xcitium’s new backup history unless your provider confirms that it imported them.

How do I download a CodeGuard backup?

The exact screens depend on your provider. Network Solutions’ CodeGuard guide describes downloading a full backup or selected files as a ZIP archive through the CodeGuard account workflow. Its instructions apply to the accounts covered by that provider’s transition guidance, so use the portal directions shown for your own account. How do I download files or a database from Xcitium?

For Network Solutions accounts covered by its Xcitium instructions, the documented path is to open Website Backups, manage the relevant Xcitium backup, review backup history, confirm the selected backup is complete, and choose a date. The guide offers a full backup download, selected files or folders, and a database-file download. Portal labels and availability may differ for other providers. How do I restore a backup safely?

Network Solutions documents three restore scopes: a full file restore, a selective file or folder restore, and a database restore. Its workflow asks customers to acknowledge that the existing files or database will be overwritten. Before submitting a restore, check both the backup date and what the chosen restore will replace; a broader restore can overwrite newer content. Follow the current instructions for your provider and account. Network Solutions: restore backup site files in Xcitium Backup

Can I keep using CodeGuard instead?

That depends on your provider’s account terms and transition notice; the cited guidance does not establish one universal option for every customer. Check your account notice or ask your provider whether CodeGuard remains available for your specific subscription. Do not delay downloading archives you want to keep while waiting for an answer.

Why can’t I assume Xcitium works exactly like CodeGuard?

CodeGuard’s FAQ describes an initial file backup over FTP or SFTP, followed by differential backups that transfer changed or added files and record deletions. It also describes file restores and MySQL/MS-SQL database backup capabilities. Those are descriptions of CodeGuard, not a guarantee that Xcitium uses the same backup mechanics. For Xcitium behavior, rely on the documentation and account controls provided for your service. CodeGuard FAQ
