Cloudflare and Squarespace solve different problems. Choose Squarespace if you want to build and host a typical portfolio, business website, blog, or online store without managing infrastructure. Choose Cloudflare if you already have a site and need services such as DNS, domain registration, content delivery, or security. Cloudflare Pages is a separate option for JAMstack sites, but Cloudflare says it does not host most websites.

What are you trying to do?

Start with the job, not the price. Squarespace is a website platform: its subscription combines a visual site builder with managed hosting and business tools. Cloudflare is primarily an infrastructure and domain-services provider, with DNS, CDN, security products, and domain registration. Its Network & CDN plans are not substitutes for a hosted website subscription.

Need Better fit Why
Build and publish a conventional website without managing hosting Squarespace It combines the builder and hosting, with business features such as commerce, marketing, and analytics.
Manage DNS, a domain, CDN, or security for a site you already operate Cloudflare These are infrastructure services rather than a no-code site-building workflow.
Host a JAMstack site Cloudflare Pages may fit Pages is Cloudflare’s hosting option for this kind of site; Cloudflare says it does not host most websites.
Keep a Squarespace site but manage its domain or DNS elsewhere Both may be used The domain provider and the web host can be different, though configuration requires care.

Cloudflare describes the distinction in its Domains documentation: “Cloudflare does not offer web hosting for most websites, though you can deploy and host JAMstack sites with Cloudflare Pages.”

What does each service include?

Squarespace: build and operate the site

Squarespace is the direct option if you want to choose a design, edit pages visually, publish content, and have the site hosted as part of the same service. Its feature set also includes commerce and other business functions. The plan that makes sense depends on which features you need, so check the current plan matrix rather than assuming every plan includes every capability.

Cloudflare: manage the network and domain layer

Cloudflare offers DNS, CDN and security services, as well as domain registration at cost. It also provides free Universal SSL for Cloudflare domains. Those services can sit in front of or alongside a separately hosted website, but they do not supply the conventional visual builder a typical Squarespace user is looking for.

How do the prices compare?

The listed prices buy different things, so they are not an apples-to-apples comparison. Cloudflare’s figures below are for Network & CDN plans; Squarespace’s are for website subscriptions that include a builder and managed hosting.

Service and plan Price listed Billing and positioning
Cloudflare Network & CDN Free $0 per month Free tier; positioned for personal or hobby projects.
Cloudflare Network & CDN Pro $20 per month billed annually; $25 per month billed monthly Positioned for professional sites that are not business-critical.
Cloudflare Network & CDN Business $200 per month billed annually; $250 per month billed monthly Positioned for small businesses operating online.
Squarespace website plans Start at $19 per month when paid annually Four plan names—Basic, Core, Plus, and Advanced. Prices vary by plan and location.

These prices were listed on the providers’ live pages on October 7, 2026, and can change. Cloudflare’s plan details are on its Network & CDN pricing page; Squarespace says its plans include a 14-day free trial and directs customers to check pricing for their location in its pricing information. To estimate your actual cost, identify the Cloudflare features you need and compare them with the right Squarespace website plan—and include a separate host if your site will not be hosted by Squarespace. There is no single equivalent price across the two services.

Can Cloudflare work with a Squarespace site?

Yes. A site can remain hosted by Squarespace while its domain or DNS is managed elsewhere; changing domain management does not itself require rebuilding the website. But using Cloudflare is a configuration choice, not a default speed upgrade. Squarespace says most of its sites do not need Cloudflare’s security and traffic services, and says its sites already have SSL and are designed for high traffic. Those are Squarespace’s statements, not an independent performance comparison.

Connecting the services involves nameservers and DNS records. Squarespace’s Cloudflare connection guide warns that Cloudflare proxy status on CNAME or A records can interfere with a Squarespace connection. If you do not have a specific requirement for Cloudflare, keeping the default setup is usually simpler.

How to connect them without breaking the domain

  1. Confirm the reason for the change. Decide which Cloudflare service you need; do not change DNS solely on the assumption that it will make the site faster.
  2. Review the existing DNS records. When adding a domain to Cloudflare, inspect and import the records before switching nameservers. Cloudflare warns that missing or incorrect records can make a domain unreachable. Follow its full DNS setup guide.
  3. Change nameservers only after checking the records. Cloudflare’s full DNS setup uses nameserver changes. Confirm that the records needed by the Squarespace site and any other domain services are present before activating the new setup.
  4. Check proxy settings if the site will not connect. Squarespace specifically notes that Cloudflare proxy status on CNAME or A records can interfere. Review those settings against its connection guide before changing other site settings.

For readers whose question is about domain hosting rather than website hosting, Squarespace explains the distinction in its web hosting vs. domain hosting guide: the domain can be registered or hosted elsewhere while the site’s content remains on Squarespace.

Which should you use?

  • Choose Squarespace when you need an all-in-one way to design, publish, and host a conventional site, and do not want to administer DNS or server infrastructure.
  • Choose Cloudflare when you already have a host or operate a site that needs domain, DNS, CDN, or security services. For JAMstack projects, assess Pages separately from Cloudflare’s general Network & CDN plans.
  • Use both only when the setup serves a clear need. Keep Squarespace as the builder and host, and add Cloudflare for a specific domain or network requirement if you are prepared to manage the DNS and nameserver configuration.
