You can move a YouTube channel and its videos between Brand Accounts associated with the same Google Account, if the account meets YouTube’s requirements. This is an account-level transfer—not a way to move a stream to the cloud—and it can permanently delete the channel already attached to the destination Brand Account. Before starting, confirm both accounts and channels, check eligibility, and preserve any records you need.
What a YouTube channel transfer does
A Brand Account transfer moves a channel from one Brand Account to another associated with the same Google Account. It is not a general merge of arbitrary Google Accounts, and it is not required just to let someone help manage your channel. For collaborator access, YouTube Studio channel permissions provide role-based access without sharing Google Account credentials.
Before you try to transfer, review YouTube’s channel transfer guidance and confirm your account qualifies. You need to be the primary account owner. Supervised accounts cannot move a channel; school accounts may qualify depending on the transfer requirements. YouTube does not guarantee that every account will show the transfer option.
Before you move the channel
- Identify the source and destination. Sign in to the Google Account associated with the source channel. Confirm the destination Brand Account and inspect whether it already has a channel.
- Review access and permissions. If the channel uses YouTube Studio channel permissions, YouTube’s transfer instructions say to opt out and remove users who have channel permissions before transferring. This is a transfer prerequisite, not a reason to migrate collaborators when no channel move is needed. See YouTube’s channel permissions guidance.
- Inventory what you need to retain. Record or preserve channel details and any records you may need. YouTube warns that some source Brand Account-associated information, including watch and search history, creator demographic information, and gift settings, may be lost.
- Understand the replacement warning. If the destination already has a channel and you choose to replace or delete it, that destination channel’s videos, comments, messages, playlists, and history are permanently deleted. Verify the selection carefully before confirming.
Transfer a channel between Brand Accounts
YouTube’s interface can change, so check the current transfer guide and account eligibility before proceeding. The general sequence in YouTube Help is:

- Sign in to the Google Account associated with the source channel.
- Open YouTube Settings, then Advanced settings, and choose the option to move the channel.
- Select the destination Brand Account and review the channel name and destination details.
- If prompted to replace or delete an existing destination channel, stop and verify that you are willing to permanently delete its listed content and history.
- Confirm only after checking the source, destination, and consequences. Follow YouTube’s on-screen instructions.

Channel transfer is different from streaming setup
If your goal is to give a collaborator access, use Studio permissions rather than transferring ownership or sharing your Google Account password. YouTube assigns roles through channel permissions; viewers cannot access a stream key or start or end streams, while channel owners can manage livestreams and live chat. If your goal is to broadcast, choose a streaming method based on the event and production needs. YouTube describes mobile streaming as useful for quick updates, webcam streaming as a simple computer-based option, and encoder streaming as suited to gameplay, overlays, and connected production equipment. Expensive equipment is not required to begin.

Prepare and test a livestream
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and have no livestream restrictions in the preceding 90 days to livestream. Check eligibility before scheduling an event. For an encoder event, YouTube recommends setting up at least 2 hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event.

- Choose the streaming method and verify that the channel is eligible.
- For an encoder, select settings that suit your equipment and actual upload capacity. YouTube recommends testing upload speed and leaving enough network headroom; a published bitrate recommendation is not a guarantee that a connection at exactly that speed will be stable.
- Run a test stream, public or unlisted, using similar motion and audio to the planned event.
- Preview in Live Control Room. Check audio and video quality and confirm viewers can watch from the channel or watch page, including on mobile.
- Monitor the event while it is live, then stop the encoder after the YouTube event ends.
Encoder settings and connection testing
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and lists RTMP/RTMPS delivery, H.264/H.265/AV1 codec options, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, and a 2-second keyframe interval (not exceeding 4 seconds). Recommended bitrates depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For example, YouTube lists H.264 1080p at 30 fps at 14 Mbps and H.264 720p at 30 fps at 8 Mbps. These are encoder recommendations, not evidence that a connection with the same upload speed will be reliable. Check the current YouTube encoder settings and test your setup.

Can I move any YouTube channel to any Google Account?
No. YouTube describes moving a channel between Brand Accounts associated with the same Google Account, subject to eligibility requirements. Check the transfer guide for your account’s situation.

Will moving a channel delete another channel?
It can. If the destination Brand Account already has a channel and you choose to replace or delete it, YouTube warns that its videos, comments, messages, playlists, and history are permanently deleted. Verify the destination before confirming.
Do I need to transfer my channel to give someone access?
No. YouTube Studio channel permissions let owners grant role-based access without sharing Google Account credentials. A Brand Account transfer is a separate operation.
