There is no universal monthly price for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 in India. The desktop option depends on your computer’s measured power use and your electricity tariff; a cloud option depends on the service, instance, region, runtime, and data transfer. First decide whether your “news channel” is a live newsroom feed or a playlist of prerecorded segments: those workflows need different services.
First choose the workflow: live production or a prerecorded loop
A live camera or newsroom feed needs a live-input workflow. A playlist of uploaded reports can be looped without a camera feed. Do not compare a prerecorded-video looping service with a live-production system as if they perform the same job.
- Live camera/newsroom: An encoder sends a live feed to YouTube. YouTube says encoder streaming suits advanced productions; the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements explain the prerequisites.
- Prerecorded segments: A playlist or uploaded recording can be looped. Confirm the service accepts the workflow you need; a service built for uploaded video should not be assumed to accept a live camera input.

These are not interchangeable price quotes. In particular, a cloud VM sending an encoder feed to YouTube is not the same product as a managed service that also distributes video to viewers. YouTube hosts playback for its viewers; do not apply a cloud provider’s viewer-delivery estimate to bytes sent from an encoder to YouTube.

How to calculate the desktop’s monthly electricity cost
Measure the complete running setup at the wall rather than treating the power supply’s rated capacity as its actual consumption. Use the premises’ marginal electricity tariff, not a national average.
Monthly electricity cost = average wall draw in watts ÷ 1,000 × runtime hours × tariff per kWh.

- Measure average watts for the computer and any equipment that must remain on to operate the stream.
- Use the intended schedule. For a continuous 30-day month, runtime is 720 hours.
- Use the marginal ₹/kWh rate applicable to the premises. A bill can include fixed charges or slabs; use the rate relevant to the additional consumption where possible.
- Multiply the three inputs. Add internet, backup power, maintenance, or new hardware separately if they are additional costs for this setup.

There is no supported exact monthly VM quote without a workload and configuration. Price the components actually used, for the chosen region and operating system.

- Compute: instance type and continuous runtime. The instance must sustain the chosen encoding workload; an inexpensive instance that cannot keep up is not a workable saving.
- Internet transfer out: estimate the stream’s outbound bitrate and runtime, then check the provider’s billing rules and any applicable allowance.
- Other services: include storage, monitoring, backups, or other components only if the setup uses them.
- Operations: account for your own time configuring, patching, monitoring, and recovering the server.
AWS bills On-Demand compute and internet data transfer as separate dimensions. Its current EC2 pricing page says 100 GB/month of internet data transfer out is free, aggregated across AWS services and regions, subject to exclusions and offer terms. For a rough transfer estimate, convert bitrate to megabits per second and multiply by seconds streamed; divide by eight to estimate megabytes, then convert to the billing unit used by the provider. For example, a steady 10 Mbps stream sends approximately 4.5 GB per hour in decimal units before protocol overhead. This describes encoder-to-destination traffic, not audience playback delivery. Actual billed transfer and rounding depend on provider rules.

Set the stream bitrate to match the output and connection
Bitrate affects the required upload capacity at home and the cloud’s outbound traffic. It depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec, so do not choose a bitrate without specifying those settings. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps using AV1/H.265 or 14 Mbps using H.264; its table also provides minimum rates and other combinations. Apply the same output assumptions to each option
- Write down resolution, frame rate, codec, and target bitrate.
- For a desktop, check that upload capacity remains above the stream’s total bitrate with headroom, including other devices sharing the connection.
- For a VM, use the same output profile when estimating outbound transfer and confirm the instance can encode it continuously.
- For a managed service, check its supported resolution, input type, storage, recovery, and destination against the same requirements.
Compare like with like, not just the headline price
For each candidate, record the workflow, output quality, reliable upload or outbound capacity, storage, recovery behavior, support, taxes, and whether it only sends to YouTube or also serves viewers. Include the cost of a backup power arrangement or a second internet connection only where you actually need one.
AWS’s example of approximately $69.74 for a one-hour event with roughly 1,000 viewers at SD-540p is for its Live Streaming solution in US East (N. Virginia): about $2.50 for encoding and packaging and $67.24 for distribution. It is a viewer-delivery architecture example, not an India EC2 encoder rental price or a monthly always-on quote.
