Clash Royale’s publicly documented “code” is its rules and systems—not its private source code. Supercell’s support materials explain how battles, cards, Card Evolution, and Tower Troops work, but they do not reveal internal source code, matchmaking logic, server implementation, or hidden combat formulas.
How a Clash Royale battle works
Supercell describes Clash Royale as a real-time multiplayer card battle game. Players collect and upgrade cards featuring troops, spells, and defenses, then deploy them to attack the opposing towers. Your deck determines which cards are available to play, while Elixir is a named battle resource covered in Supercell’s support materials. The exact rules for Elixir generation, damage calculations, and other numerical combat details should be taken from the current documentation for the relevant game mode rather than assumed.
Supercell’s support index treats several experiences separately, including 1v1 Battle, Duels, Ranked, Training Camp, and Practice Mode. That distinction matters: a rule or deck assumption from one mode should not automatically be applied to every match.

How Card Evolution works
Card Evolution is a battle state that a card earns through use, not an always-on transformation. Supercell Support says a specific Evolution takes six Evolution Shards to unlock. Once unlocked, the card must be assigned to an Evolution Slot or Wild Slot. In battle, you cycle the card the required number of times; when it is charged, its next deployment uses the evolved form. After that play, the cycle starts again. The Evolution’s ability triggers automatically rather than through a separate ability button.

Supercell Support lists the Evolution Slot at Arena 3 (600 trophies) and the Wild Slot at Arena 10 (3,000 trophies). Those are progression thresholds stated on the support page, not permanent guarantees; check the current page and in-game rules because access and mode restrictions can change. Supercell also notes that some seasonal events, challenges, and Mega Draft modes may limit Evolution use.
What Tower Troops change
Tower Troops let players choose how their Crown Towers deal damage. They function as an additional support card in the tower setup, rather than taking one of the deck’s original eight card slots. Supercell says Tower Troops can be upgraded to Level 16, but their level cannot exceed the player’s King Tower Level. The available troop abilities and collection options may change, so a current matchup or ability comparison needs to be checked in the live game.

Supercell introduced Tower Troops in its December 12, 2023 update. That announcement described them as defending from the Crown Towers, appearing to the opponent when battle begins, and using a separate deck slot; the current support article is the more appropriate source for present-day system details.

Why mode rules matter: Princess Gambit
Supercell’s June 2026 update described Princess Gambit as a sudden-death mode with two Princess Towers and 40 cards that appear randomly as the player plays. The update said those cards, their levels, and their forms are based on each player’s Collection. This is an example of how a mode can change familiar assumptions about decks and battle flow; it is not a general rule for ordinary matches.

Collection Level and progression context
In its June 2026 update, Supercell described Collection Level as the sum of card levels, plus five for each owned Evolution and Hero form. Supercell’s May 2026 announcement presented changes to Collection Levels and Mastery as a simplification of progression tracking. For current reward timing or precise progression rules, use the live help page, since the dated announcement alone does not establish today’s reward cadence.
