For an occasional full-page screenshot, start with Chrome DevTools: it is built in and needs no extension. For frequent captures or a workflow that needs shortcuts, annotation, redaction, or guided exports, an extension may save steps. Neither is a universal winner on complicated pages, so test the actual page and inspect the result before relying on it.
How the two approaches work
Chrome DevTools
Chrome DevTools includes full-page capture alongside screenshots of selected areas, page nodes, oversized nodes, and mobile layouts. To find the command, open DevTools, open its command menu, and search for the full-page screenshot option. Confirm the exact label in your Chrome build; Chrome’s documentation establishes the capability, but the interface can change. Chrome for Developers’ DevTools screenshot guidance was last updated August 9, 2024.
This is a useful starting point when you capture only occasionally, do not want to install another extension, or need other DevTools screenshot modes. It does not add an editing workflow by itself.
Browser extensions
Extensions put capture behind a toolbar button or keyboard shortcut, and some combine capture with editing and export. Their methods and features vary: some scroll through the page and assemble the visible sections, while others describe using the Chrome DevTools Protocol. Check the current Chrome Web Store listing for the extension’s workflow, version, permissions, and available exports.

What extensions add—and what their listings establish
Shortcuts and capture flow
GoFullPage says users can click its toolbar icon or press Alt+Shift+P; it scrolls through the page and assembles the pieces, and its listing says very large pages may be split across images. FullPageShot describes a one-click button or shortcut and says it uses the Chrome DevTools Protocol. These are vendor descriptions, not guarantees that every page will capture correctly. GoFullPage; FullPageShot
Editing and export
FullPage Capture lists annotation, blur or pixelation, PNG/JPEG/PDF export, and clipboard copying. Full Page Screen Capture lists redaction, OCR, annotation, and multiple export formats. These can reduce the steps needed to prepare a handoff or tutorial image; confirm the exact controls in the current listing before choosing an extension. FullPage Capture; Full Page Screen Capture

Privacy disclosures
Extension listings and privacy policies are developer disclosures, not independent audits. FullPage Capture’s listing says captured data is stored on the device and that the extension makes no network requests; treat that as the developer’s statement, not a verified guarantee. FullPageShot’s listing names debugger and downloads permissions. Review current permissions and data handling before installing an extension for sensitive pages. Check the output on complex pages
A full-page screenshot is a static image of a page as it rendered during capture. Scrolling and stitching can interact with sticky elements, lazy-loaded content, frames, and inner scroll containers. Virtualized lists and infinite feeds may only render a portion of their content at a time, so one image may not represent the full underlying feed. Extension listings describe some such limits; none establishes reliable behavior on every site.

- Inspect the top, middle, and bottom. Look for missing sections, repeated sticky elements or banners, seams, and unexpectedly split output.
- Check dynamic content separately. For a live feed or virtualized list, note that the image represents what was rendered at capture time, not necessarily every item in the underlying data.
- Use the result that meets the purpose. If the output must be a complete, shareable record, do not assume a successful download means every relevant section was captured.

Or skip the browser setup
If you need screenshots in a repeatable developer workflow rather than a one-off browser capture, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return an image or PDF; for example, this cURL command saves a WebP capture of Stripe:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. It removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Decision rule
Choose DevTools when avoiding an install matters more than capture convenience. Choose an extension when repeated use or bundled editing and export save meaningful steps. For either route, make a test capture of the page you actually need and verify its content before sharing or using it as a record.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture a full webpage in Chrome without an extension?
Yes. Chrome DevTools documents full-page screenshot capture as a built-in screenshot method.
Will a full-page screenshot include every item in an infinite-scroll feed?
Not necessarily. Virtualized or dynamic interfaces may render only part of their content at once, so the screenshot reflects what was rendered during capture.
