To add a shortcut link to your Android home screen, open the page in Chrome, tap More (the three-dot menu), then choose Install and create shortcut > Create shortcut. Edit the name if you like, then tap Add. Google says shortcuts with the Chrome logo open in Chrome.
How to add a website shortcut to your Android home screen

Open Chrome on your Android device and go to the website or specific page you want to save.

Tap More, the three-dot menu beside the address bar.

Tap Install and create shortcut, then tap Create shortcut.

Google documents this sequence in its Chrome instructions for creating website shortcuts on Android. Menu labels and presentation may vary by Chrome version, language, or device.

Shortcut or web app: which option should you choose?

These are different choices in Chrome. If you specifically want a shortcut link that opens in Chrome, select Create shortcut, not Install. Google explains the separate web-app option in its Android web-app help.

What to do if the shortcut option is missing
Chrome’s documented menu can vary, and Google’s help does not establish one fix that works across Android launchers, device manufacturers, and Chrome versions. Check the current Chrome and device help for your version rather than relying on cache-clearing or launcher changes as guaranteed fixes.

Home-screen shortcut versus Chrome New Tab shortcut
A home-screen shortcut appears on the Android device’s home screen. A custom shortcut on Chrome’s New Tab page appears inside Chrome and is created separately by adding a name and URL. Google notes that New Tab custom shortcuts do not sync to other devices; its New Tab page instructions cover that feature.

Removing an item from the home screen is different from uninstalling an app. For general home-screen item management, see Android’s instructions for adding, moving, and removing apps, shortcuts, and widgets. If you chose Install and added a web app, treat that as an installed app rather than assuming it is only a shortcut.
