It was a gradual rollout, not a current download recommendation: Google said it would reach Windows, Mac, and Linux users over the following days or weeks.
When Chrome 77 launched
Google announced desktop Chrome 77.0.3865.75 for Windows, Mac, and Linux on September 10, 2019. The Stable-channel rollout was staged over days or weeks, so the announcement did not mean every user received the update immediately. Google’s release notice also counted 54 security fixes; that is the figure in the 2019 announcement, not a measure of the update’s overall security impact. Google published its consumer-facing feature overview on September 19. It described some capabilities as arriving during the fall or over the following weeks, so feature availability could lag the initial Stable announcement. Google’s Chrome feature overview, September 19, 2019.
How Chrome 77 tab sharing worked
Chrome 77 added a way to send an open tab to another computer, phone, or tablet. The destination device needed to be signed in and have sync enabled. As Margret Schmidt, then Senior Director of Product Management and User Experience for Chrome, put it: “Now you can use Chrome to send a tab to another computer, phone, or tablet on which you are signed in and have sync enabled.”

Google’s description establishes those sign-in and sync requirements, but does not spell out how every account setup, managed device, or device pairing behaved. It should not be read as a guarantee that a tab could be sent to any device without those conditions.
Other browsing changes in Chrome 77
Android tabs and desktop tab titles
On Android, Google introduced a tab grid with page previews and the ability to group tabs by dragging one over another. After opening a tab in a group, users could switch among tabs in that group using a bottom tab switcher. Google said Android’s grid was rolling out over the following weeks; iOS users already had that tab-grid layout at the time.

On desktop, hovering over a tab displayed its page title. Google described thumbnail previews as a later addition, not something available to every user with the initial Chrome 77 release.
Address bar and appearance options
Google also described address-bar answers on desktop and Android, translation prompts and access to translation from the menu or address bar on desktop, and options to customize the new-tab background and browser colors. These were product capabilities in Google’s feature overview, with availability staged rather than necessarily arriving for everyone on release day.

Chrome 77 DevTools: the features identified
The available official Chrome for Developers preview for “What’s New In DevTools (Chrome 77)” identifies two changes:
- Copy element’s styles: Right-click a node in the DOM Tree to copy that DOM node’s CSS styles to the clipboard.
- Visualize layout shifts: DevTools could visualize layout shifts; Google’s preview warned that the visualization may flash the screen.

Chrome 77 on Android had a separate rollout
Google announced Chrome for Android 77.0.3865.73 on September 10, 2019, and build 77.0.3865.92 on September 18. For both announcements, Google said availability through Google Play would take the next few weeks. The Android release timing and build numbers were separate from the desktop announcement. Can you still get Chrome 77?
“Get it here” referred to a 2019 release, not a recommendation to install Chrome 77 today. The supplied release information documents the historical rollout and features; it does not establish a current supported download path for that old version. For present-day use, rely on Chrome’s current update mechanism rather than seeking out an archived Chrome 77 installer.
