Chase Secure Banking is a checking account with no minimum opening deposit and no overdraft fees. It costs $4.95 per statement period unless you meet one of Chase’s monthly fee-waiver conditions: receiving at least $250 in qualifying electronic deposits or having an account owner aged 17–24. Transactions may be declined or returned when funds are insufficient, so “no overdraft fees” does not mean every payment will go through or that the balance can never become negative. Check Chase’s current account terms before applying.
What the account includes
Secure Banking is designed for everyday checking and digital payments. Chase lists mobile balance checks, bill payments, mobile check deposits, account alerts, Zelle, and use of Chase ATMs without a Chase fee. The account can also receive domestic and international wires.
Chase says eligible direct deposits may arrive up to two business days early. That timing depends on when the payer sends the deposit and is not guaranteed.

The monthly service fee is $4.95. Chase waives it for a statement period if either of the following conditions is met:

- The account receives at least $250 in qualifying electronic deposits during that statement period.
- An account owner is aged 17–24 during the applicable period.
Chase says new and converted accounts are not charged the monthly fee for at least the first two statement periods. Other fees may apply; review Chase’s current fee schedule and account agreement for charges beyond the monthly service fee.
Which deposits count toward the $250 threshold?
Chase identifies certain employer or government payments sent through specified electronic networks, as well as payments through third-party debit-card payment services, as examples of qualifying deposits. Zelle transfers, cash, checks, wire transfers, and interest payments do not count. The account’s terms define eligible deposits, so do not assume that every electronic transfer qualifies. What “no overdraft fees” means in practice
Chase says it may decline or return transactions when available funds are insufficient, and it does not charge an overdraft fee on this account. But a transaction can still leave a negative balance—for example, if a final charge is higher than the amount initially authorized, as can happen when a restaurant adds a tip. No overdraft fee is therefore not the same as overdraft protection or a guarantee that a payment will be approved.

Opening the account and checking eligibility
Chase says there is no minimum deposit to open Secure Banking, but applications are subject to approval. Its product page says applicants who are 17 must open the account in a branch. The available information does not establish every applicant’s eligibility or required identity documents, so check directly with Chase if you need to confirm your circumstances.

How it differs from another Chase checking account
Whether Secure Banking fits depends on how you use checking, not only on the monthly fee. Chase’s comparison page lists paper checks for Total Checking but not for Secure Banking. Use the comparison to check the features that matter to you, including payment instruments, access, and fee-waiver requirements.

Should you count on a signup bonus?
Chase’s offer page listed a $175 bonus expiring October 14, 2026, with ten qualifying transactions required within 60 days and restrictions for some existing or recently closed Chase checking customers. Offers can change and eligibility rules matter; verify the live enrollment page, deadline, qualifying activity, and payout terms before treating a bonus as available.
