ChangeTower and Distill.io can both watch selected webpage content and alert you when it changes, but neither is the universal choice. The key decision is operational: ChangeTower emphasizes service-hosted checks, scheduled monitoring, page interactions, and team workflows; Distill lets you choose between checks on your own device and checks on its cloud service. Match the monitoring mode, targeting controls, interval, quotas, and alert route to the pages you need to watch.

ChangeTower vs Distill.io at a glance

What to compare ChangeTower Distill.io Practical implication
Where checks run Its service-hosted monitoring uses a real browser, according to ChangeTower’s FAQ; a browser extension helps set up monitors. Local checks run in the user’s browser or app; cloud checks run on Distill’s servers, per Distill’s documentation. Choose whether checks must continue when your computer is off, or whether you specifically want local execution.
Targeting and alert noise Lists content and keyword monitoring, AI-assisted criteria, selective sections and elements, and recorded actions on its features page. Lists visual selection, CSS, XPath, regular expressions, JavaScript customization, and alert conditions on its features page. Test whether the tool isolates the specific price, clause, availability field, or notice you care about.
Cadence and capacity The FAQ reports daily checks on Free and Lite, hourly on Essential, every 20 minutes on Business, and custom scheduling on Enterprise. Intervals and cloud-check quotas vary by mode and plan. Its platform documentation lists a five-second minimum for the browser add-on and two minutes for the web app on Flexi. Estimate checks required for all monitored URLs and compare the actual plan limits before subscribing.
Alerts and teams Email, Slack, webhooks, MCP, workspaces, roles, and workflow features are described, but availability varies by plan. The FAQ says native Microsoft Teams integration is in development and describes an email-address workaround. Lists Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, webhooks, mobile apps, and API access on request. Check the exact tier, routing options, and setup requirements for the destination you need.
Best initial fit Worth evaluating for service-hosted scheduled checks, recorded interactions, and team workflows. Worth evaluating when the choice between local and cloud checks matters, or when its selection and condition controls fit the target page. Run a trial monitor against representative pages; capabilities alone do not establish comparative accuracy.

How the monitoring models differ

ChangeTower: service-hosted checks and page interactions

ChangeTower describes checks that load pages in a real browser and wait for rendered content, including content delivered by scripts or APIs. It also describes recording actions to sign in, dismiss banners, or select a region before a check. That can matter when the information you want to monitor appears only after an interaction. ChangeTower also says sites that outright block automated traffic cannot be monitored; see its FAQ.

The vendor lists schedules from five minutes to weekly, selective monitoring, domain scanning, bulk setup, keyword alerts, and team features on its features page. Treat these as described capabilities and confirm whether the particular feature and schedule are available on your plan.

Distill: choose local or cloud monitoring

Distill’s local monitors run on your browser or app, so the device and browser/app need to remain available for checks to run. Cloud monitors run on Distill’s servers and can continue while your device is off, subject to service and plan limits. Distill explains this distinction in “What is Distill?”.

Distill supports browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera as well as a cloud web app, according to its supported-platform documentation. The stated minimum interval is five seconds for the browser add-on and two minutes for the web app on Flexi. Those minimums are mode-specific, not a guarantee that every plan can run every monitor at those intervals.

#1 Best Overall
Web Alert (Website Change Monitor)
  • Notification when a website of your choice changes
  • Visual difference of all modifications to a website detected (diff)
  • Choose exactly which part or parts of a page to watch
  • Check pages even behind logins, HTTP Authentications, form posts or long navigational sequences

Selective monitoring: getting useful alerts instead of noise

Both services describe ways to watch less than an entire page. That is often more useful than alerting on every visual or textual change, such as a rotating banner or timestamp.

  • ChangeTower: its features page describes selective monitoring of sections or elements, keyword appearance/disappearance alerts, AI-assisted criteria, and recorded page actions.
  • Distill: its features page describes visual selection plus CSS, XPath, regular-expression, and JavaScript customization, along with single and compound alert conditions.

Before relying on a monitor, test it on the real page state and the exact element that matters. Verify that harmless changes elsewhere do not trigger alerts and that a meaningful change does. For pages behind sign-in, loaded dynamically, or dependent on location or interaction, validate the relevant setup and plan rather than assuming the page will be captured as a visitor sees it.

Intervals, quotas, and cost planning

ChangeTower’s published cadence and free allowance

ChangeTower’s FAQ reports daily checks for Free and Lite, hourly for Essential, every 20 minutes for Business, and customizable schedules for Enterprise. Its pricing page, observed in 2026, describes Free as monitoring three pages once a day at no cost and without a card. A “page” means one URL, counted once even if multiple items on that URL are watched. Check the live pricing page for the current plan matrix, prices, and feature gates; these can change.

Distill’s interval and cloud usage considerations

Distill’s platform documentation gives the mode-specific minimum intervals noted above. Its pricing page describes free and paid resources such as cloud checks, devices, alerts, macros, and version history. Cloud checks are counted in units of 10 seconds, unused resources expire at the end of the billing period, and Flexi usage beyond reservations is billed, according to Distill’s pricing page. Because quotas and prices vary by plan and may change, inspect the live page and calculate expected usage from your monitors’ intervals and active hours before choosing.

Estimate the workload before selecting a plan

  1. List every URL and the specific content to watch on it.
  2. Choose the intended monitoring mode and interval for each URL.
  3. Estimate checks per month from the interval and how long monitoring will be active.
  4. Compare that total, along with device, alert, history, and integration needs, against the current plan limits.
  5. Test representative pages and review actual alerts before moving an important workflow onto the service.

Alerts, integrations, and team workflows

ChangeTower describes email, Slack, webhooks, MCP for AI assistants, folders, workflows, workspaces, roles, and SAML SSO; exact availability is plan-dependent. Its FAQ says native Microsoft Teams integration is in development and suggests adding a Teams channel email address as a member in the meantime. Confirm whether that status or workaround still applies when setting up an account.

Distill lists Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, webhooks, mobile apps, and API access for developers and teams on request. For either service, check whether alerts can reach the right person or system, whether they include enough change context, and whether the needed integration is included in the plan you intend to use.

Which one should you choose?

  • Consider ChangeTower if service-hosted checks, scheduled monitoring, recorded interactions, or built-in team workflows align with your needs. Verify the plan’s cadence and feature gates.
  • Consider Distill if you want the option of device-local checks, or its selection controls and alert conditions fit your pages. Keep the device requirement in mind for local monitors; use cloud monitoring if checks must continue while your device is off.
  • Test both on representative pages if accuracy and low alert noise are critical. The vendors describe features, but the available evidence does not establish an independent comparative accuracy, false-positive, or uptime winner.

For a different task—capturing a page as an image or PDF rather than continuously monitoring it—ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a change-monitoring substitute: one GET request can return a screenshot or PDF, and its clean-shot workflow removes consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture.
