To change YouTube’s interface, change its display or app language. To change a video’s spoken audio, choose an available audio track or set preferred languages; captions are a separate player control. Changing YouTube’s language does not automatically translate every video, and changing your location is not necessary to translate the interface.
Choose the setting that matches what you want to change

Change YouTube’s language on a computer
- Select your profile picture on YouTube.
- Select Display Language.
- Choose the language you want.
The display-language choice applies to the YouTube site and is saved in the browser. If you clear the browser’s cache and cookies, you may need to set the language again. The setting may show localized titles or channel names where translations are available, but it does not force every video’s title, description, or audio into that language. [YouTube Help]
Change the language in the YouTube mobile app
iPhone and iPad
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings, then Languages.
- Tap App Language and choose a language.

- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings, then Languages.
- Tap App language and choose a language.
YouTube’s help instructions distinguish the app language from preferred viewing languages. Menu names and placement can vary as the app changes, so use the current labels shown in your version. [YouTube Help]

Change language in a mobile browser
The YouTube mobile website follows your device language by default. To choose another language for the site, open the account menu and go to Settings > Account > Language, then select your preference. Location is a separate setting in that area. [YouTube Help]
Change YouTube language on a TV, streaming device, or console
- Open the YouTube app and go to Settings.
- Select Language and choose the language you want, if that option is available.
YouTube says these apps follow the device’s language and location by default. The app may offer a direct language setting; supported devices may also have a separate search-keyboard language option. Choose Location only if you intend to change regional recommendations, charts, or news—not to translate the interface. Menu availability can differ by device. [YouTube Help]

Set preferred languages for audio and metadata
Use preferred languages when your goal is to find available dubbed audio or translated titles and descriptions—not to change the interface.

On iPhone or iPad

Change the audio for one video
If a particular video has alternate audio, open its player settings, select Audio track, and choose an available language. The option appears only for videos with additional audio tracks; changing it affects that video, not YouTube’s overall interface. [YouTube Help]
Turn captions on or adjust their appearance
When the player shows the CC control, select it to turn captions on or off. YouTube also provides appearance settings such as font, color, opacity, size, background, window, and character-edge style. Caption availability depends on the video and language; captions are not a substitute for an alternate audio track. [YouTube Help]

If the video still appears in another language
- The interface is still in the wrong language: check the display or app language for the device and YouTube version you are using.
- The voice is in another language: check the video player’s Audio track menu. If no alternate track is listed, YouTube does not offer another track for that video.
- The title or description is in another language: set preferred languages and look for available localized metadata. A translation is not guaranteed for every video.
- You want translated words on screen: use captions when the player offers them.
- You want different regional recommendations, charts, or news: change location separately; it does not translate the interface.
